Argh!!! I just found out that the girl I had a mad crush on all through 9th grade, who I could have sworn up and down was straight, is apparently not straight. Of course, I don't actually have feelings for her anymore, plus she now lives in Israel, plus she has a girlfriend, but still! I'm learning that I should really just go for it more often with stuff like this.

Ok. Now I'll stop ranting about my non-existent love life.

1. Go for it, now

As long as you are polite, lots of straight people will simply say "Thanks, I'm flattered, but I'm straight". Not all straight people are homophobes, or get all hung up if you make a polite advance. The key is to avoid the obvious homophobes and be polite - and as in your case, ya just never know. It can be harder for us cuz most people are straight, so it's difficult to ask someone out unless you know for sure they're not. But don't let that stop you, we all deserve love.
