If you were a muslim and you lived in South America......
and you were trying to pray towards Mecca. Which way would be closer....east or west? My students asked me and I have no idea...

1. Isn't it ridiculous to think that you can bend prayers?
But it's definitely East. By a huge amount. Do you not have a globe handy? It's painfully obvious when you look at one.

7. God doesn't hear counter-clockwise prayers.
It's some convoluted shit about the international date line that screws up the reception, but I forget the details. Kirk Cameron explained it to me but after the first few sentences, I couldn't get past the idea that Mike Seaver was waving a banana at me and showing me pictures of the elusive crocaduck.

Don't have to live there to pray there.

13. Going to Hawaii...
is expressly forbidden in Islam. It's one of the fundamental tenets.

15. Ah, okay.
So the only ones that would go there would be the ones lax enough not to pray.

At Manoa Valley's mosque yesterday afternoon, Hawaii Muslims also prayed for five island families that have lost relatives in southern Asia's deadly seismic waves.

Some of the families, all of whom attend the mosque, have lost as many as four family members in the disaster.

"It's actually people we know who are directly affected," said Hakim Ouansafi, president and chairman of the Muslim Association of Hawaii. "As Muslims, we have to do whatever we can."

About 150 Muslims gathered yesterday to pray for the victims of the tsunamis and donate funds for relief efforts. The families that lost relatives asked for privacy.

Thanks for playing, though, and I'm sure you'll enjoy this copy of our home game.

14. So if you're in South America,
Wouldn't it be more northeast? Depending, of course, on how far south in S.A. one is.

17. Lol....I suppose it depends if prayers are affected by gravity.
Edited on Thu May-29-08 05:37 PM by Evoman
If they are, either way will eventually get you to Mecca anyways. If it's not, east won't help you anyways, because your prayers are going into outer space.
