6. Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know, your stairway lies on the whispering wind
Stairway to Heaven. Incredible song. Incredible artists.

I heve nothing but respect for Lynyrd Skynyrd, but Stairway wins, hands down.

Phish also does a hilarious acapella version of Freebird with vocal parts emulating the insturments....

13. I think Obama was misquoted
"You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not."

"And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to LYNYRD SKYNYRD'S FREEBIRD or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

See ... it wasn't really the guns and religon thing everybody says -- he meant to say Freebird. ;-)

24. No, that's me...
...and I prefer Stairway, or would if I hadn't heard it 12,000 times.
I wish radio would play other Zep material, but they really seem to like the Stairway...

No wonder I'm bitter.
Fucking old, too.

21. Stairway is just blah, but Freebird makes me...
Edited on Fri May-30-08 01:50 AM by Kutjara
...want to rip my own face off.

When I was in college in the mid 80s, there was a crowd of hippies who had colonized one corner of the student bar since about 1970. Most of them were post-post-post-post-grads whose theses were taking longer to write than "Remembrance of Things Past." Ten times per day, every day, one of them would emerge from a cloud of pot smoke, shamble over to the jukebox and load it with quarters. Then they'd select Freebird twenty times in a row. When the last rendition finished, they'd repeat the process, over and over and over. The rest of us had to keep the jukebox stuffed, just so only every fifth song would be Freebird. Now that miserable song is burned so deeply into my brain, it'll never leave.

As for why I spent such an enormous amount of time in the student bar, well that's another matter altogether.

They had so many great ones.

26. Teen lovers rarely off themselves to "Stairway To Heaven"
So I'll go with that. Plus, it was the last song they played at the dance at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and right after, the counselors would let you neck with your boyfriend for about 5 minutes before separating girls and boys back to their sides of the camp.
