'Carol Burnett' star Harvey Korman dies at 81
24 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Harvey Korman, the tall, versatile comedian who won four Emmys for his outrageously funny contributions to "The Carol Burnett Show" and on the big screen in "Blazing Saddles," died Thursday. He was 81.

Korman died at UCLA Medical Center after suffering complications from the rupture of an abdominal aortic aneurysm four months ago, his family said in a statement released by the hospital.

His daughter, Kate Korman, said in the statement that it was a "miracle" that her father had survived the aneurysm at all, and that he had several major operations.

"Tragically, after such a hard fought battle he passed away," she said.

6. Sad
I can't say I'm surprised; I saw him on an interview regarding the Carol Burnette show, and he did not look well.

Carol's take off on Gone With the Wind (Korman was Rhett Butler) is probably the funniest thing I've ever seen on TV. As much trouble as he had keeping a straight face with Tim Conway, I don't know how he got through the part of the GWTW send-up when Burnette comes down the staircase wearing curtain rods; Korman says "Scarlett, that dress looks lovely" to which Burnette responds "Why thank you, Rhett -- I just saw it in the window and I couldn't resist."

27. Thank you! My favorite Carol Burnett sketch, ever!
I saw this, first run, as a kid, and my entire family was in hysterics, and it's always stuck with me. The curtain rods were just priceless, and Harvey Korman was brilliant, as he always was. He'll be very much missed... ;(

Thanks,
Rhiannon:hi:

I think I'll watch the Korman/Brooks scene in Blazing Saddles.

(The Gov having difficulty put pen in holder)

Hedley: Think of your secretary

Gov: (pen goes right in) Thank you. That's a good one.

You have to wonder how many takes they did before everyone stopped howling with laughter.

34. Very rarely do I feel more than
a remote stab of general sympathy as I would for any person when I hear of a celebrity death. But I always, always enjoyed Mr Korman. I don't know if he was a comic genius or not all I know is if he was involved in a skit, a movie or TV scene whatever I knew without a doubt I would enjoy it too. Even when, perhaps especially when he would be unable to hold in his own laughter as he tried to deliver his lines.

And so when I heard this news this morning I felt almost as if I lost a friend. I will miss him as I'm sure many others will. My condolances to his family and loved ones although they at least had the advantage over me of knowing him all the more closely surely they had richer lives for that.
