I just wanted to say how much I love DU
I hope the admins drop into the lounge and read the threads in here even though I'm sure that they don't have to do much moderation of this forum as opposed to the other forums. LOL. I just want to thank them for creating this forum.

Anyway, I love politics and I have since I was a little boy. My mom said it started because I used to watch Donahue with her because it was her favourite show and I would pick up a microphone and pretend to be him. I was always attracted to people with microphones I guess. Anyway, I guess my interest and love for the news/politics started in August 1990 when I was if you could believe it just 7 years old. I remember Saddam invading Kuwait. I was in the hospital at the time getting some major surgery done and I can remember my mom and dad watching TV and being shocked that Iraq had invaded Kuwait. I remember the night that the first gulf war started as well. I was watching the Canadian parliament of all things and heard the MP's sending their prayers to the men and women who had just entered into combat. I rushed up stairs to tell my mom and dad the war had started and we watched it on TV. I had to sleep in their bed that first night because I was worried that scud missiles would hit us. LOL.

My interest in the news really started to grow after President Clinton took office in 1993. The 1996 presidential race was the first race I really understood enough to be able to follow well. I watched the conventions, debate, and election night religiously that year. The 2000 election, probably the most exciting election that we will ever see, riveted me. I followed each and every turn of the Florida recount. After Bush got elected, my interest in the news waned tremendously because I was so depressed. 9/11 and the war in Iraq got me interested again. I remember the heartbreak of election night 2004 all too well. I was a zombie that night. I really thought Kerry would win.

I've been riveted by the Clinton/Obama race. It's practically all I do lol is follow EVERY twist and turn of it. I just have a tremendous love and passion for this subject and I'm so happy that I found DU. I literally spend hours each day reading as many threads as I can. It's awesome. It's great to find a website where people share my progressive values as well. I was a democrat since 1992. LOL. My dad tells me I loved Bill even as an 9 year old. Don't love him so much now:(

Just wanted to thank the mods and admins again for putting this website together. A friend pointed me here and I've loved every moment of it. Thanks for creating an addicting and very fascinating community mods and admins. I love what you've created:)

4. Welcome, RMP2008!
It's good to have you here! I've been here since March of 2001, and this place saved me from going crazy. I hope that by next January, we'll be well out of this nightmare, but I plan to stay here nevertheless.

You make me feel old; you remember the Gulf War from when you were a kid. I actually served in that war. I don't know how far apart in age that makes us, but everyone is welcome here, even younguns. ;-)

Here's a pic of me from the Gulf. I'm on the far right, with my tank crew:

And here's a more recent pic of me on the job as a Medical Assistant (and soon to be Physician Assistant student) :

6. Wow-cool
I am in the medical profession as well as a supervisor for medical transcription. It's pretty cool doing medical records. Awesome pics. Wow, you're a gulf war vet? Thanks for your service and for posting those pics. You know, we're probably not too far apart in age. I just turned 25 and I'm guessing you are around 38-40?

As far as the board goes, DU has become a huge part of my life. It's awesome.

It'll be weird after the election is over and the inaguration. There won't be much going on and the board will quiet down a bit I guess:(

5. Welcome to DU!
'Tis a fine place that Admin has built here, and a fine place that the Mods do the day-to-day caretaking of.
