Anyone else think Jennifer Hudson is overrated and can't act?
I saw Dreamgirls, which I thought was terrible (well, the men in it were okay), and I've only seen trailers and outtakes from the new Sex and the City movie, and, I cannot fathom why people think she can act, or why she won the Oscar. Well, I can - the Oscars are all about industry BS and $$$. She was crowned the new darling, like Gwyneth Paltrow was in 1998 or whenever.

Anyone else think she's terrible? She also seems to be not too smart. I was shocked by her lack of original thought and speaking skills (she seems to speak in about 75% cliches) in this interview (I don't know how old she is, but she reminds me of a 14 year old):

I do think she's beautiful, however. She should just stick to singing.

1. I agree.
And I think every song she sings sounds like a big number from the Dreamgirls movie. She needs some variety.

2. I think she was wonderful in Dreamgirls, and I was all set not to like her because of the hype.
What can I say, she moved me. I haven't seen her in anything else though, so I can't really judge her overall acting skills beyond that.

4. I don't know who she is...?
Does that mean my finger has fallen off the pulse of what's hot?

6. Yeah I'll see it sometime this weekend, with friends
I just with the women would act like grown women and not like girls - particularly Carrie & Charlotte. I have mixed feelings about it, but enjoyed the witty witty dialogue on the show, and thought it was fun and funny. I liked Miranda the best because she was the most realistic, independent and, yes, cynical (which I think more women could use a dose of). But with the passage of time I am starting to appreciate Samantha more, even though I always wrote her off as totally unrealistic and one dimensional.

I didn't like her with the Russian. The chemistry was off. I do like Mikhail Baryshnikov though.:D

19. My favorite Samatha live from the TV series.
Man in bar to Sam: "Don't I know you?"

Sam: "I probably fucked you."

Man: "No I think from college."

Sam: "I probably fucked you in college."

7. Well I thought DreamGirls was fantastic (shouldve won the Oscar, IMO)
And Jennifer Hudson MORE than deserved her award. Can't fathom why people hate on her except for the fact that she was an American Idol contestant.

8. Who hates her?
I don't. I also have watched American Idol in the past, and see nothing wrong with that - it's a fun, democratic concept.

And I think she's a GREAT singer. I just don't think she can act. The clips I've seen from the SATC movie are positively painful to watch. As is SJP swanning in front of the camera like a flirtacious female toddler, desperate for attention. A shame, because she's a good actress.

9. But isn't that part of Carrie's persona?
Not really SJP.

15. Yes, but...
I think, on the show, she overdid the narrowing of the eyes, the dreamy half-distance stares. It was all very affected and swanny and adolescent. Not becoming of a 35 year old woman.

11. Nope. I disagree with you.
I haven't seen such an impressive acting debut since Barbra Streisand in "Funny Girl". Ms. Hudson was absolutely superb in "Dreamgirls". The Oscar she receieved for her performance was well deserved.
