4. Pure sickness. This fest is on all weekend....
Levon Helm tommorow.....

The Mule's first set tonight was really incredible. "Sugaree" with Brendon Bayliss from Umphrey's McGee and Grace Potter doing "Whole Lotta Love" wer just too much. "He said, she said" was very nice too....Second set should be too good....

6. I hear ya. He played with The Dead the last time they came to
Philly, Camden N.J. actually, before the show he set up shop in the parking lot and did a solo acoustic set that included Van Morrison's "It Stoned Me"-one of those concert memories of a lifetime. He also plays with the Allman Bros. I think he just loves to grab his axe and jam anytime, anywhere.

7. Oh yeah...
He is the guitar guy right now. For good reason. He is the best there is.....That solo acoustic show must have really been something.

I saw the Deepest End show in NOLA a few years back and it was the best concert besides the last Waltz that i ever went to....9 PM to 5 AM. 17 different bassists and tons of other guests. the DVD/CD is really incredible...

10. Yngwie! HAHAHAHAHA!
C'mon. Clapton I might give ya (but won't), but Yngwie is the one trickest pony in the stable.

Listen in tonight and hear for your self. Gov't Mule plays another two set show tonight. And it will all be different and improvised.

24. What I meant is Yngwie is more skilled than Warren.
That was my definition of "best" at that moment. And when he slows it down, Yngwie can be as expressive as, say, David Gilmour or maybe Joe Walsh...guitarists who use deep bends and articualtion to lend emotion to a song when there ain't no words. Calling Yngwie a one-trick-pony is like calling Kobe a ball-hog. There's a little more to it.

I should say, Warren's a badass, though. He was in The Allman Brother's for a minute, wasn't he?

(And, for the record, I got no use for Clapton after Cream.)

25. Warren is still in the Allmans........
and he played the Jerry role (albeit differently)for the different Grateful Dead projects....(but not now)

I just never really got into Yngwie much. Saw him a couple of times and was not too impressed. Lot of spped and flash but no soul. So I have enver heard wht you describe from him.....

11. Missed the webcast. So I looked at some youtubes.
Seems like just another fine blues player.

I saw no shredding.

Point me in the right direction. I don't like to dismiss anybody's music out of hand.

(btw, even if I dislike what yngfat plays, he can play circles around Clapton.)

What do you think of Jimmy Thackery?

BTW, Thanks for the link, great gig. Also, I dig Haynes too, just not quite sure I'd put him at the head of the class.

21. I love Jimmy Thackery.......
His band is sweet too.....Only seem em once, but they rocked my ass off. Good to see he is getting higher up on the bills of some of the festivals now too. i would like to see him in the jam scene too, he has the style to play at some of those festies.

You kow there was a time when I was not so enamored of Warren. But good god, the guy just shreds all the time. Now I can't think of a better, more soulful player tha Warren. I guess it was the Deepest End when I really started to get it. All those guests all the everything else going on stage and it was all I could do to not watch Warren all the time. It was the most incredible night of guitar playing I have ever seen. And it ain't like he is the first great guitar player I have ever seen by any stretch.....

BTW< that set was smokin......

22. I got to see him at John Lee Hooker's Boom Boom Room.
Watched him from about ten feet away. Absolutely scorched the guitar. Cool guy too, got his and Mark Stutso's autographs on a cd.

And you're right, Haynes does put a ton of emotion into his music. I think that's what roots in the blues does for a player, IMHO.

Man Levon Helm and band were freaking amazing. One of the best sets of music I have heard in a long time. Larry Campbell is a monster player. The band leader of Conan's band and Levon's daughter, Amy were amazing. Great songs, lots of Band tunes....Long Black veil, The Weight etc.....
