I need intelligent discussion quick!
I just got out of a forum that only talks about ...Well, I don't think I can say those things here, a prime example: gay sex and retards.

1. Reminds me of this thought I've been considering
Homophobes who accuse gay people of being sick and disturbed. They who entertain perverse thoughts of gay men butt fucking each other because of course that's all they do.

7. Sorry lol
Well, I'm keen on literature and world cinema. I suppose I like receiving a glimpse into societies from all over the world: today Hugo's "Les Miserables" was shipped, looking forward to it. Aside from that I have my eyes on "Coin Locker Babies," two babies are abandoned in a coin locker and I guess it charts how their life pans out. It's by the Japanese writer Ryu Murakami.

As for film, there's the Romanian production "4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days." It's set during the time when Ceausescu was in power. A woman wants an abortion and looks to her best friend for help. A very tense work I'm told.

Also, "The Jammed" - it's set in my home city of Melbourne and yet it's all new to me. Young Asian girls are given false promises of a better life but they end up as sex slaves. This starts with a girl sitting in a police station facing deportion. Our formerly installed government pay no consideration to their situation and kick them out. Based on real life court transcripts.

Finally, "the diving bell and the butterfly," based on a true story in which a magazine editor suffers a stroke and is paralyzed completely but for his left eye. An inspiring story for me in that he shows that so much is still possible despite such a compromised position.

ooofffff.

How does one begin to describe the thoughts I have for those enjoying a forum such as that.

Intelligent discussion:

Never reply to something that posts something like that, and do your best to avoid reading such ridiculously small minded garbage.

Do not ever go back!

5. Thank you for the advice.
I didn't mean to, but the moderators go along with it. I was trying to explain why I wanted to post away from the unintelligible babble, but they wouldn't have me talking about books and politics. Apparently I'm on this "High horse."

I last read The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins.

Now I'm a secular humanist.

He based the character of Hawkeye Pierce on himself while a surgeon with the 8055th MASH during the Korean War.

24. now you have to read M*A*S*H Goes to Maine. It is equally good
the other books in the series are rather derivative and silly but the first two were really good.

but my favorites were MASH goes to Maine and Mash Mania

the others were fun and a great way to retain acquaintance w/ the characters but just not as good as the other three.

30. well the TV series(& Altman's movie) are strictly based on the initial book M*A*S*H. The additional
novels followed later. For a while a new one came out about every 2 years or so. They were mostly just silly after MASH Goes to Maine; quite possible ghostwritten since Dr Hooker has died. But they are great characters and they have lots of fun with the lives after Korea.

I read maybe 6 of the followup ones and then lost track of them, so it would appear several more have been written. So I could just read the whole damn thing over again . I have read the first 2 books at least three times each. The rest I only read one time.

18. As a gay woman, I am a lot more disturbed about calling disadvantaged people "retards".
Homophobic people, fuck 'em. I can deal with that. They may disagree with my being gay, but they still treat me with respect.

Disrespect to mentally disabled or IQ challenged children or adults is something I cannot tolerate. Most of my experience and volunteer time has been with children, but the same applies to challenged adults.

They do menial jobs like mopping floors, wiping tables, setting up silverware, bagging groceries, putting shoes on the rack for Target or WalMart, stapling the mail outs from the BBB or other business's, dusting pews for churches, etc., etc. etc.

These kids and adults give 100% to everything they do. Which is more than can be said for most non-challenged adults.

So, if it takes a little longer to get you groceries bagged, or get your burger, just be a little patient, and have a bit of tolerance for someome that is busting their butt, is a little slow about it, but perhaps is not as fortunate as you are.
