I have a fingernail that's going to fall off soon

It's so gross - I tried to take a photo but I couldn't get it to focus properly.

I slammed it in a cardboard baler about a month ago and it turned all black and purple. Then it got this white streak across the middle. Now the top is black, the middle is white and the part by the cuticle is new nail. There's a seam along the white part and it's slowly pulling away - half of it is just hanging and the other half is going to follow.

It's utterly disgusting and I'm waiting uncomfortably for the moment when it gets hung up on something and just rips off.

3. go to the dr and get them to drain off the black part or a podiatrist

they can coax the nail into growing back properly. Sounds like your nail bed is OK, but if you don't want to see a podiatrist, get one of those little mini stretch tubes to keep it covered so you won't snag it and make it hurt like hell all over again. I did that once and it took about 18 months for it to all grow out. Toenails grow real slow.
