In honor of today's official release of Firefox 3—at 10AM Pacific Time—let's dive in past Firefox 3's most talked-about feature-set into its lesser-known power uses, tricks, and customizations.

1. Nice! Spell checking in the subject line
Didn't know about that, even in Ver2

2. Neither did I
I used to type my subjects in the text field to check spelling, then cut and paste to a subject field. Now I no longer need to do that.

The warranty warning always makes me laugh.

5. Yeah, that's very funny.
I have to admit, though, it did stop me for a second, before I thought, "Wait a minute. what frickin' warranty?"

23. You know...
in Ver 2 all you had to do was right click on that field and select the option to "spell check this field" and it would do it...

3. Holy crap!
You can click and drag images in the browser into a folder or onto your dekstop! (I just accidentally did that)
(I bet you all knew that already)

7. This is a great page

I've done the tweaks to enable spell checking in single line fields, and to automatically start up your last tabs after you've closed down Firefox normally (as opposed to only when you crash out). It even pops up my mini-Pandora radio window that was broken out of the main browser. Sweet!

Good stuff - I'm looking forward to tweaking it out a lot more. Thanks!

The auto tab start up?

And is it just me, or is this new version f'n zippy! The scrolling speed is making me dizzy!

10. Here you go:
1) In the 'awesome bar', type: about:config
2) Agree to do dangerous stuff. :)
3) In the filter field, type: browser.startup.page
4) Double click the browser.startup.page line that you now see.
5) In the popup that shows up, enter: 3
6) Exit out of that tab, and enjoy!

I agree, it seems pretty quick in comparison to previous versions. :bounce:

20. Oh, fuck no, spare me. Another software "upgrade" that will only result in
me getting annoyed because it has "features" I don't need, and is harder to use than the last version.

I'll grant that the Mozilla developers have the best of intentions, but God damn. Do we need more "features?" Just give me a browser that conforms to standards, but doesn't require me to study "power user tricks," PLEASE.

22. Actually, it's just as basic as ever
The fact that it isn't laden with "bells and whistles" is in keeping with their philosophy. One isn't required to read the power users manual or go through the about:config file in order to use FF. But users who are so inclined are free to tweak FF in all sorts of ways in order to fit their needs.

26. It's worth getting for the speed upgrade alone.
It is remarkably faster than Firefox 2.0.
