(not a copycat) should I get Sirius or XM?
I'm kind of a talk radio/NPR buff more than music and I mainly want this for some summer road trips out in the west between the reach of most radio stations.

1. What does that have to do with global warming, freeper?
They're merging, I hear. I have Sirius. I like it a lot, but don't have anything to compare it to.

2. They are merging
I have no idea what that will do to prices or content.

My car came with a 1 year subscription to Sirius and I sort of like it, I an get NPR. but I can get that free over the radio anyway.

I think it is useful if you listen to something other than NPR all the time so you can avoid the commercials. I rarely use it.

3. you can't get NPR everywhere out here
or it's just classical music "hour" from 9am-4pm :eyes:

in Nevada they finally have enough translator stations to get NPR almost anywhere in the state --progress.

now if satellite radio carried all 3 hours of Stephanie Miller, this would be an easy decision!

7. I am not sure what they carry
but I bet you can go to the website and find out. I do know that XM does not currently have NPR.

10. Sirius has NPR and they have some Air America stuff
seems to be the best for talking. on long road trips, i start getting tired of a new song every 4 minutes, or tired of the same ones over and over, talking makes the distances shrink --unless it's Dr. Laura. :banghead: Why does anyone call in?

11. I have my iPod connected to my car stereo
with 160Gbs I have a lot of music to pick from. I also do not go on any road trips of significant length where there is not access to an NPR station I am aware of.

I hardly use the sirius at all and am not sure if I will pay for it when the time is up.

12. i have an ipod too, but i get bored with the music and the podcasts get out of date quickly
once you stop updating them.

i think i would get a fair amount of use from a 6 month subscription and the $40 receiver.

:hi:

22. I had it and let it lapse when my year was up
because the equipment was crappy, the antenna didn't hold up at all. Music and DJs were good but having a place to lay-out the antenna was a problem. It has to face a certain direction and does always get good reception.

8. The merger isn't a done deal
This WSJ blog entry breaks down the odds pretty well:

http://blogs.wsj.com/deals/2008/06/17/xm-sirius-and-five-angry-men/?mod=googlenews_wsj

I'd imagine rates would go up if the merger gets full FCC approval, because then you'd be getting "more."

9. I am going to guess
that if the merger goes through, we would be paying more, and getting less...

Call me crazy but that's how I think it would go.

personally, I hope it does not go through. I believe in competitions ability to keep prices down. For proof, look to oil and gas.

Their music channels are better categorized.

Check for yorself, though. Each service offers a free online trial. :hi:
