What do y'all know about Nova Scotia?
We have an apparent open invite to stay there, if we decide to go on a lil vacation, with Sniffa's soon-to-be former co-worker and his soon-to-be wife, as they are going home in a week. They live in Halifax.

Anyone? Bueller?

:hi:

1. It's lovely, and nice and cool
Friends were there in August and found it very refreshing - sweaters at night....

Lucky you!

3. I have a couple cousins there.
It's cold most of the time.

Yup, that's about all I know about it.

4. Absolutely wonderful place, except for one thing:
It may have changed since I was there 25 years ago, but back then the restaurant food was BORING. Dinner was either a steak and a potato, or a lobster and a potato.

New Bruswick and PEI were similarly wonderful, but the food sitation was the same.

As I said, it may have changed. Probably has in fact.

Go there. You won't regret it.

That's been on my list for a long, long time. And even though I have heard it is not very exciting to watch the tide come in, I have never questioned its place on my list.

12. I'm pretty sure you can drive there.
Although that's not as painless as it would have been a year ago. At least you wouldn't have to go through an airport if you did it that way.

18. That's the way to do it, hands down.
You're set!

I'm jealous. I just spent three days in Roanoke, Virginia.

I'm sure N.S. will be absolutely beautiful. And you could wear sweaters, I guess. In Virginia, we only dream about such things until sometime in October.

We went up to Maine several years ago (before DU or you would have gotten a call!) and it was just crazy beautiful and there were baked goods and blueberries and all kinds of wholesome foolishness.

Mr 'pede went to NS way back when. I think he took a ferry from Maine called the Blue Nose??? Saw whales.

15. Was there for a day in 1982
Part of a cruise ship stop.

However, my dad, with all his pull and money at the time, had us driven around in the mayor's car by the mayor's son.
We had a lovely local young woman as a guide. Went and saw the beautiful high cliff coast, Anne Hathaway's house, and enjoyed a windy seaside day.

Hope you go! Bet you and sniffa will have tons of fun!
(besides...he needs to recover from his PTSD...)

Edited on Thu Jun-19-08 10:43 PM by Gormy Cuss
Halifax is a modern city, albeit small but most of the province feels like a 40-60 year time warp of Maine or Vermont. Go! Have fun! Cape Breton is a must see.

on edit: take the CAT. The drive between is pretty but VERY long and much of the same old stuff after a couple of hours. The old ferry between Bar Harbor and NS was fun, if a bit rough with the swells. The old Portland ferry was a smooth ride but LONG. The CAT takes care of both issues.

33. It is gorgeous. People are nice. The ocean is cold except for the part of the ocean that
surrounds the province of Prince Edward Island. Mahone Bay and Lunenburg are great towns to visit on the South shore about an hour from Halifax.

I lived there twice in my life and love it.

Halifax is a navy/university town. So it is a drinking town. Easy to walk around the downtown of the city. It is so small.
