Does anyone here remember when you could smoke at the Heath club?
Edited on Thu Jun-19-08 11:58 PM by Carnea
The treadmills had those little ashtrays attached to them.

I remember this in Boca in the early nineties and apparently I've gone crazy per a lady friend.

Of course she also doesn't believe that when I went to High school they had two smoking areas one for the teachers and one for the students. Oh and you could leave school during a free period and you could have a knife or gun on campus as long as you kept it in your truck on a gun rack or something.

She also doesn't believe that gas stations had big coolers of beer right next to the pumps that you could buy from the guy pumping your gas... and that they had guys that pumped your gas and if you opened the beer and kept it on your lap while you drove that was actually legal.

I'm turning 40 on Monday and I feel so fucking old.

2. My high school had a smoking area
and, what's more, I can remember being able to smoke in the hospital. When I had my oldest (he's 24 now), they had both smoking and non-smoking rooms.

3. Smoke at a health club?
Isn't that about as logical as eating a vegan stir fry at McDonalds?

My high school had a smoking area, but I didn't smoke cigarettes, so I had to go into the woods to smoke.

The high school is still there, but the woods aren't. They were chopped down to build.... believe it or not....

A Bally health club.

5. my high school (about 5-10 years ago)
the smokers would hang out on the railroad tracks because tobacco was not allowed on school property, and it was a low-traffic track for a local company.

my senior year the janitors started smoking there as well.

I'm told now that the tobacco-smoking students have moved to the lakefront with the potheads.

7. They have Heath clubs?
Is this for Heath bars or Heathcliff?

Or is this a club for guys named Heath? Because I wouldn't remember that because they wouldn't let me in on account of my not being named Heath.

:P

9. I remember when you could smoke
At the movies: one side of the aisle was the smoking section. They had little ashtrays in the arm rests, the way they used to on airplanes. I wonder who had the unenviable job of emptying those out?

10. We had a Senior Lounge, and if you were 18, you could smoke
Youn could have hung fresh pork hams from the ceiling and given them a nice, hard smoky curing with the blue haze that emanated from that room.

Of course, the potheads were all in the woods out back....with some of the younger teachers, I found out later, er, someone told me, ah, I heard it from some guy, I can't remember his name.

12. I remember the smoking section on airplanes
I was on a flight from Washington National to Boston and was stuck in a seat surrounded by a dozen chimneyfish. It was the longest hour of my life.
