Question about apartments, security deposit and dawgs
I've had my eye on a trio of 4-family units. Hardwood floors, nice huge kitchen, basement laundry hookup, etc. Basically everything on my list of requirements for an apartment. I've got 2 dogs, a golden retriever and a golden doodle -- they're about 80 and 50 lbs respectively. They want $1300 extra security deposit plus an extra $130 a month in rent (it's weight based on the animal's size). I don't know how the hell I'm going to come up with the extra security but I'm thinking that the extra rent seems awfully high considering that the apartment rents for 660. Is that pretty much a standard extra rent for pets? My other concern is that there are only 12 units in this small complex but for the past 6 months that I've been looking there has always been at least one unit available. Should that be a red flag?

1. I paid a $50 pet deposit and $20/month
The high amount is an attempt to deter pet owners without shutting them out completely. My old place was like that, they wanted a $500 deposit and an extra $200 a month. I moved when my lease was up.

3. f that.
keep looking. it took me awhile to find an apartment that would let me have three cats without gouging me for it, but i found one. especially if you have some good rental references, there should DEFINITELY not be that big of a deposit or rent.

good luck.
