Any Starsky and Hutch fans on DU?
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00018D3RI/qid=1077340638//ref=pd_ka_1/002-0084738-4021625?v=glance&s=dvd&n=507846

I can't tell you how excited I am that the first season of this milestone television drama is about to be released on DVD (on March 2nd). This show meant so much to me as a kid. I thought Starsky's Gran Torino was the ultimate set of wheels on the whole planet, making even the General Lee look like a goddam garbage truck. I patterned much of my own personal style after these two wacky warrant-scoffing, harrassing, shoot-first-and-ask-questions-later, semi-corrupt but loveable cops. Which is probably why I could never get a girlfriend until well after college.

I've seen the ads for the movie that's coming out soon, and all I can say is that I'm less than "whelmed". How dare Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller make fun of this classic show. Who the hell do they think they are?

1. Shit yea - pardon my french
Starsky and Hutch had a great on-screen relationship. That was the best cop show of the 70's and kiss my @ss if you disagree. :)

2. I haven't seen it in over 25 years.

I'd love to catch it in reruns, though. Is any cable network currently running the show?

3. One of the cable channels (I think USA) used to run them...
up until a couple of years ago. They may come back, though, after this disrespectful movie comes out.

4. I *LOVE* THEM! By the way, from the blurb I saw on the movie,
it doesn't look good. Playing them for fools. Misses
the coolness of the duo. First show to show men who
loved each other without apologizing. Buddy movies,
anyone? This is the daddy of them all.

9. Comes out March 5...
with Owen Wilson as Hutch and Ben Stiller as Starsky. On top of it being a spoof, Hutch is portrayed as the mellow, sensitive cop and Starsky as the serious, high-strung, hair-trigger guy. As I recall from the original show, it was the exact opposite: Hutch carried the .357 Magnum and seemed to be one bullet away from an Internal Affairs investigation in every episode.

5. Too young.....
I've never seen S & H, but I cannot wait for the movie. I think the show needs to be made fun of, as all pop-culture icons should, once they've passed their perspective primes. It probably was a great show, and you seem to have a special connection to it, but understand that some people probably felt the same way about disco, leggings, urban cowboy, etc. I don't want to diminsh your feelings toward the show, but it's just tv.

Just TV, I wish it were that simple... What a horrid vice of the American people, a replace for reality... That's another, and much more recent, debate.

6. Check out the DVDs, if you get a chance
Yeah, there was something so '70s about that show, but those two guys said things you wish you could have said and did things to bad guys you wish you could have done. They were SO cool. It was meat and potatoes to an impressionable 12-year-old way back in 1975.

8. I watched every cop show from
1970 on. Starsky and Hutch had some unique qualities to it. The action was definitely trend setting.
