Hey! My Wife Just Got Offered A Teaching Position
For those who've been around here a while you know that my wife was a special ed teacher in the past. Also, she worked as a program coordinator for the education of mentally challenged adults.

But, the last place she worked was run just horribly and the stress was so bad that she could no longer deal with. (She has a neurochemical condition that results in BPD.) So, she retired.

Well, now she's bored with being retired and put out feelers for a return to the classroom. And, wouldn't you know it, she got an offer today.

Here's the cool part. The school is 4 blocks from our house. Full time position, with benefits, 4 blocks from home, with the same organization she used to work for. She will get credited with 90% of her past seniority and we can transfer her pension contributions back to the same fund without any charge.

She gets bored with retirement and gets to go back to the same old system, only this time instead of 18 miles from home, 4 blocks away.

She asked me what i thought. But i told her my opinion didn't matter. If she wants to teach again, she should do what she wants.

I'm psyched for her.

2. Good news for Mrs. Professor.
I'd get bored, too. I'm sure she'll make a difference to this new group of kids. Congratulations to her.

4. Wow. That's close.
Wish it were me that worked 4 blocks from home.

Question: Would she be working near the Dam Bait Shop?

7. No.
The school and our house are both several blocks east of there. That's on the island. We used to live about 200 feet from the Dam Bait Shop and about 200 yards from the dam when we lived in an old Victorian on the island.

But, we live east of the river now.

10. She Took The Job
She just called me about 5 minutes ago & said she decided to go for it.

Good for her. Retired. Unretired. Knows she can re-retire anytime she wants to. I'm envious of my own wife. LOL!

12. Position Description
She will doing an "at-risk" program, moving from classroom to classroom teaching a variety of subjects to give special attention to kids struggling in one subject or another.

Reading, math, spelling, history. 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders who are sturggling, but are not in special ed. (My wife is a Spec Ed teacher and has a BA in Social Work, too!)

Best part: No grading tests, no grading papers. The teachers to whom those kids are normally assigned have to do all that. My wife can administer quizzes to assure the kids are ready for the real class tests, but that will be minimal. So, little take home stuff, and school she can walk to in 5 minutes.

Pretty cool!
