My problem right now is that I live in a house that has no AC, there's a heat wave
and to top it off... the only shower in the house is in the bedroom of someone who goes to bed by 8 pm.

And I'm not willing to spend 90% of my time smelling and feeling like crap. I left Florida to get AWAY from crap like that, and it followed me up here.

15. Does Polysics count?
I tried some of their stuff, as I read that Devo sort of "passed the baton" on to them. Maybe I just tried the wrong album, but it was kind of annoying. You might dig it, though.

That must have been very exciting and novel (more so than today even).

Did you stay with a family? Go to discos? Any fun stories?

33. I lived in my own apartment, and the discos were too expensive, for the most part
However, I'd occasionally get invited to parties for foreign students. Once after such a gathering, I was walking back to the subway with a group that included a young Englishman who had auburn, Brillo pad hair.

A Japanese man ran up to him and said in English, "Excuse me. Are you Mr. Bob Dylan?"

36. Not really
They were pretty shy for the most part. The ones I mingled with socially were either people who had studied abroad themselves or who had been introduced to me by older people in the neighborhood. But I spent most of my time with other foreign students, although none of them were American. (There were no other Americans at my school.)

To be fair, when I taught Japanese on the college level, I had to practically force my students to meet the 15 Japanese students who came on an exchange program every year. The American students, by and large, were NOT friendly to the foreign students.

But then, I found most of the students I taught completely indifferent to the many opportunities for enrichment available on campus. These events--music, theater, and dance performed by visiting artists or their fellow students, residencies or lectures by noted political figures or authors, foreign and independent films--were all kept alive by faculty and townspeople, not by students.

23. When it comes to Japanese music I'm all about Eastern Youth.

Granted those guys and Guitar Wolf are the only Japanese bands I know, but Eastern Youth kick all kinds of ass no matter what country they're from.

26. I forgot about another one: Box.
They released two albums in the 90s, I believe, although I've only heard the first one, "Box Pops." A brilliant Beatles-style album. Think Utopia's "Deface The Music" album with slicker-sounding production and a strange mix of Japanese and heavily-accented English.

I'm a big fan of the cute-girl-singer-with-techno-backup variety. Sugar (though Korean, they also recorded in Japanese) was wonderful :loveya: and I adore what I've heard from Ayumi Hamasaki.
