Do you recognize your dog's "voice"?
My girl has a very distinct bark, and she's in full mailman-mode right now.

I could pick her voice out of a police lineup 99% of the time.

2. Hell, I recognize their different barks
Tristan has several: the "oof" when he first hears a noise, the "I'm a big, bad watch-golden, so you'd better stay away from my house" bark, the high-pitched bark when Molly won't play with him or is guarding her kibble so Tris can't eat it even if she isn't. Molly has her "my people are home finally" howl, the "the kibble is ready" howl, her "the leashes are out and we're going for a walk" bark, and rolling around on the ground piggy snorts.

He was funny... a very small springer with the canine equivalent of Barry White's voice.

5. My wife is good at that
They all sound the same to me. We have cats, and she always knows who's talking. When a dogs bark they all sound the same to me, but she knows if it's our neighbor's dog (no threat to the cats) or a strange dog (possible threat).

6. Of course!
Not only do I recognize who is barking, I can tell what their barks mean.

Dogs are great at communicating if you listen to them.

11. I'm so sorrry.
I lost my beloved Golden Retriever named Beau 2 days after Christmas to bone cancer. He had a fine life. He was a rescue puppy the vet gave me. I got him at 3 months and had him 10 years. He had a peaceful death because I had a vet come to the house. I lost my beloved Scarlett a year earlier to cancer also. She was another goofy Golden. She also lived to be 10. I'm about to get another Golden puppy in the next month.

12. Thanks.
Its hard, isn't it? Harry was a rescue also, and he was an 8 year cancer survivor, thanks to the University of Wisconsin Vet School. So he was pushing 16 when he died. He was relatively healthy and happy on Saturday, became weak and died on Sunday. I'll get another, but I'm not ready yet.

8. Yes, but...
apparently a new sheltie has moved in close by. Every once in a while I catch myself wondering if Jessie has somehow gotten out.

9. Absolutely. When I pick her up at the boarding kennel,
I can hear her voice among all the others. Last time, as I was waiting in the lobby, I didn't hear her, and I began to worry. She was fine, just choosing not to participate, I guess.

I also know what she's saying to some degree. She has a special "Let me in!" bark; a "there's critter in my yard" bark, a "there's someone on the porch about to ring the door bell" bark--which becomes louder when said doorbell rings; and a "I know there are applees and/or tomatoes in the fridge and I'd like one, please" bark. And occasionally a kind of catch-all bark that I always need to investigate.

Oh, almost forgot the "Mom!! One of the cats is in my crate!" bark. 'Scuse me. Gotta go be a mom.

10. I know my cat's voice,
and if I heard two cats fighting, I'd know for a 99 44/100% certainty whether he was one of them.

14. Oddly enough, I can tell each of the 13 barks in my house right now.
I can also tell if the bark is playful, painful, aggressive or just done in dreaming.

Freak = me.

15. I recognize the voices of the idiot yappers in the area
the one who barks at rain when the window is open, and the one who barks at leaves all the way through the fall.
