assistant engineer slaving over ProTools for days trying to make one coherent take out of the thousand or so she'd need to get through a "song"

Jeebus H. Christmas, that is beyond wretched. My cat makes more musical noises coughing up a hairball.

6. I have doubts that the voice is really Britney's
It would have been real easy to dub another voice over the tape.

7. Well, to be fair,...

...since Britney would have known her singing wouldn't be transmitted, she was probably just doing the singing equivalent of actors saying "rhubarb rhubarb" to give the impression of talking on stage. She was no doubt just matching her lips to the audio, and it's easier to do that if you actually vocalize, rather than trying to do it silently.

It reminds me of the early days of the Rolling Stones, when fans got so hysterical that nobody could hear the band over all the screaming. Brian Jones would often just start playing "Popeye the Sailor Man", because it didn't matter a damn what sounds he was actually making.

8. What you say is true ...but...It's a sad state of affairs when the populace will...
.."put up" with somebody lip-syncing the music.
I don't know of any other job (whether artistic or not) that a person can perform without really performing.

"And Ryan steps up to the plate and is going to act like he just hit a home run"
"I'm not coming in to work today, Boss...but I plan to act like I'm writing that proposal" :) :)

9. This is the result of dancers having to pretend to be singers in order to become pop stars...
because who in the fuck would really pay to see just a dancer?
In the past, people were more honest about this. No one pretended that Joey Heatherton was really a singer. And she had no illusions that her income should rival that of a pop singer.

10. The Japanese and Koreans do it the right way
They find cute girls that can sing and teach them a few dance moves.
