Shit. Shit. Shit. Dammit. Dammit. Dammit.
TM is sick at college. Strep throat. I called in the medicine for her, but it hasn't started to work yet.

Shit. Shit. Shit. She sounds awful and wants to be home. I offered to go get her, but she doesn't want to leave. :(

1. Oh no! Strep sucks!
The antibiotics should kick in quick, though.

:-(

2. I hope so. The poor little thing.
She sounds awful. Says she had a fever last night and her back is killing her. If she's not better by tomorrow, she's going to go to Urgent Care and get a different antibiotic.

Gah. This is just what I feared would happen at some point; she'd get sick and not be home.

3. Have you asked her how this happened? Was she kissing boys?
Or perhaps drinking from an unsanitary cup at some kind of "kegger"?

Tell her to take good care of herself. College germs are awful.

4. I think she picked it up at the pool. Apparently it's going around here.
:eyes:

So far, BabyMidlo doesn't have it and she's a pool rat. Either does TM's boyfriend.

5. a big hug from one mom to another
Daughter #1 moved to Minneapolis almost a year ago. By late December she had bronchitis and strep and a boyfriend that knew his way around emergency rooms. (he's a cancer survivor) So, when she called be and could barely breathe, much less talk.........yeah, I made a decision to take off work and make a run from Milwaukee to Minneapolis. And damned if it wasn't foggy all the way there. TM will get the right antibiotics and bounce right back. In my household we usually skip over the sore throat part of strep and go directly for scarlet fever. very responsive to antibiotics.

8. Poor TM. Strep sucks ass. Well, not as much as actually sucking ass, but, you know
Edited on Sat Aug-23-08 01:17 PM by MrCoffee
Ass sucking sucks ass. Strep is bad, though. Is it as bad as ass sucking? I'll leave that to the jury to decide. All I'm saying is that ass sucking and strep are pretty close to being equally the same. Except that one is an illness and the other is sucking ass. So there's that difference.

I hope TM gets well soon.

13. How far away is it?
You should just drop in to check on her. College freshmen love that.

She'll be fine. You're freaking out because your baby is away from home. Relax, Midlo, take a deep breath.

16. You're right.
1 1/2 hours. It is so weird to not have her here. It, believe it or not, makes the house seem empty. Even with the other four of us here.

I just hope she calls after her nap to say she feels a bit better.

I'm not letting LittleCoffee leave home. Ever.

I'm not afraid to use restraints if I have to. My baby girl isn't going anywhere.

Too creepy?

It's never good when our kids are sick. When my kids are sick I so wish I could take the pain or uncomfortableness instead of them.

19. My dear Midlo!
Aw, that's too bad...

I'm sorry to hear this.

It is VERY common! I think I had strep every fall when I went away to school...The first year, it was so bad, I had to go home for a few days.

The next year I knew what was coming and took care of it quickly....

She'll be OK.

I hope you will be too, sweetie...

26. Oh, strep is nasty
I had it last summer - I think I got it from a phone at work (new job).

She'll be alright, though. She just needs good meds (including painkillers) and to be allowed to do nothing but sleep for a week.

I hope she has a friend or roommate or someone who will take care of the little things, like bringing her chicken soup and orange juice. I did and it made a huge difference.

29. Is your daughter a freshman?
my kid was a freshman last year, I about worried myself into an ulcer, and like your TM, mine was not too far away, but constant worry on my part..... it will get easier, at least that is what I keep telling myself, as the kid goes away for another year at college.

30. I got a nasty case of strep my first semester of college
fortunately the meds begin to work quickly. Give her another day or two and she'll start to feel normal again. She'll probably be hungry and a little weak though so a nice care package would probably be appreciated.
