New things I've learned about Delaware (Did you know it's actually a real state?)
For years I've assumed that Delaware was one of Philadelphia's suburbs, but it turns out that it's actually a state with its own laws, government and culture! Here are some of the other things I've learned about Delaware:

1. Most Delaware residences are constructed from stone, wood, metal or brick;

2. Delaware has paved roads, and many of its residents own their own cars;

3. A majority speak English (which is why we can understand what Senator Biden is saying);

4. Strangely, although Delaware has a limited dairy industry, they have plenty of cowbell.

I am looking forward to learning many more interesting facts about this "state" called Delaware in the coming months!

Delaware was named for Lord de la Warr. He was the first governor of Virginia.

besides, New Jerseyans don't do much better with it, mashing it up into a single syllable "Nerk". :P

2. Isn't Senator Biden from Pennsylvania?
That might explain his fine articulation. I've heard that native Delawarians (?) speak a strange garbled language that involves Homer Simpson's rear end in pictorially-significant poses.

I used to think that Delaware was like New Jersey's unofficial speed trap town or something. It's really an actual state! Thank you for enlightening me!

3. Not only A state, but the FIRST state
Delaware has the distinction of being the very first state to ratify the Constitution. Maybe it's small, but it is important.

6. The only reason Delaware signed first was because...
...the Delaware contingent to the Constitutional Convention had set up toll-booths on all the roads leading to the Hall. None of the other states' representatives had the correct small change, so they were considerably delayed, while the Delawarians simply sailed through with their EZPasses.

5. It has toll plazas
Really, really expensive toll plazas.And there's almost always a miles-long backup at the tolls.

We've been in traffic backups where we've inched along from the Delaware Memorial Bridge toll plaza all the way to the one near the Maryland border. In other words, a toll plaza-induced traffic backup from NJ to Maryland. And for this privilege we get to pay a $4 toll?

I throughly hated Delaware for its toll plazas for many years. Then we discovered it's beautiful beaches. Now we only hate the I-95 part of Delaware.

7. Doesn't I-95 constitute most of Delaware?
No ZIP codes in DE, just exit numbers.

More DE trivia: It's state flag is the coat of arms of Lord De la Ware.
