Was it....awkward?

(I'm surprised this situation hasn't been used in a Curb Your Enthusiasm episode.)

1. Oooo, I'm thinking about this right now.
I so want to ignore someone's request, but fear I may see this person at some time.

When you hit the ignore button, what message does that person get? No message, or "Sorry, this person thinks you're a complete tool, and is embarrassed that you even want to be their friend?"

2. Yeah, that's my dilemma too.
It's weird. I've got a couple of requests from people I've met maybe once.

I don't really want to start adding people I barely know just to up my "stats", but I don't want to create bad vibes either.

3. Mine's the opposite, someone I knew for years
I specifically didn't put my maiden name on there because I thought, anyone I care to keep up with knows my married name. Old school acquaintances whom I haven't spoken to in years don't interest me. But when one of your real friends becomes friends with one of your I'm-not-interested friends, and your I'm-not-interested friend sees you listed as that person's friend and wants to be your friend, well, it gets awkward.

Gawd, I need to get a life.

4. I just tell people point blank that I don't friend everyone
I'm not one of those people with 40 billion people friended. I require FB friends--gasp--be my actual friend. I'm not trying to be Internet popular.

Harsh, but that's life. People need to get out of the HS mentality, and fast.

5. I had an ex who wanted to be my myspace friend.
Given my marital situation and my general desire to move on from past relationships (I'm not of the "let's be friends" state of mind), I had to turn her down. I felt bad about it, but it would have been more awkward otherwise.

6. No, but it could happen.
In any case, I got myself into a horrible situation on MySpace, and I don't know what to do. But I don't want to air it publicly on DU.
