Do you get nervous when the power goes out?
Mine went out at 3:00 AM today. It woke me up. Yes, the power outage woke me up. Then I couldn't go back to sleep. It came back on at 4:20. Alas, because I had no Mary Jane, I went back to sleep.

I laid awake because I was freaked. Do you get freaked when the power goes out?

The furnace fan is electric.

9. Yep. For same reason.
Our dwelling is 100% electric and no funds or means to put in an alternative fuel backup. Plus a kerosene heater would be too dangerous.

Power cuts will wake me up because I can't sleep with silence. I need to hear BBC World Service. Or NPR chatter for that matter. Both help me get to sleep (they don't send me to sleep they're not that boring... will listen to them endlessly on long drives OK).

2. not so much now as I used to with
children still at home. I always worried about keeping the kids warm, feeding them, etc ...

How horrible it must be for parents to ALWAYS have that worry.

replying to this post makes me realize (again) how fortunate I am.

4. Yes I do.
And when the power is on, there is background noise, without power it is totally silent, which is what probably woke you up.

Is Mrs V back yet?

Not until next Sunday.

5. I live deep in the woods and my power goes out often, so I got a
propane powered generator. Now when the power goes of, I just go out and fire that baby up. It powers my whole house and I no longer have to worry.

6. I don't mind it too much
as long as I have candles. I'll just light em up and read. Forced quite.

Now if it stays out it drives me nuts!!
