Must-see America!
Here's the monument to the boll weevil in Enterprise, Alabama:

What else belongs on my "mustn't miss" list?

2. You going for "thing" or "events"?
Events:
Doo Dah parade in Port Angeles, Washington state. Kinda hard to explain, better google it.

Things: Areal-life pirate and his homemade ship—definitely a treasure to behold.
In NC.

2 Story Outhouse: In Gays, Illinois

My favorite:
Spam Museum, Austin, Minnesota.

I recommend this site:

Happy Hunting !!!

6. Never been there but I recognized that right away
Some friends of mine in Durham used that as a background for a video they made.

12. I lived just across the border from Esmeralda Cty NV in CA for a while decades ago
Hitch-hiked a tiny bit of NV: met some crazy prospectors, somebody driving an Atomic Energy Commission car who was on his way "to see how the ground shook" but freaked out when I mentioned bombs, an AWOL kid who was feeding himself by stealing munchies from Mom&Pop groceries as he tried to put distance between himself and his military base ...

Probably never got quite as far north as the Washoe Valley but the landscape in pictures looks familiar: the high meadows look like high meadows in the Inyo or in the Sierra and the low valleys look a lot like other places I saw in the region. It's beautiful country
