How come Ringo Starr couldn't teach his son to be a good enough drummer for Oasis?
http://www.musicradar.com/news/guitars/steve-white-slams-oasis-treatment-of-drummer-165921

It is simple: because he was not good enough for Oasis himself.

Score one for Oasis.

1. I thought that Ringo Starr was the quarterback for the Packers in the 60's?

2. Oasis has made churlish, immature behavior an art form.
As well as performing shitty imitations of a band they can't possibly compare to.
Don't get me wrong, I like some of their music, but by no means are they a 'good' band. They're a 'good bad' band.

9. They're catchy.
They don't suck as much as most catchy bands do, so they are ahead of the curve in their field. But still, their main trait is their catchyness, not their goodness.

I do enjoy a few of their songs, but not enough to buy their album or see any shows of theirs.

3. Ringo put the BEAT into the Beatles! Oasis BLOWS!
Pete Best was drummer for 2 years and the Beatles were doing nothing but playing strip clubs and bingo halls.

After 2 years with Ringo drumming the Beatles were the world's most famous band, making A Hard Day's Night, selling millions of albums, and playing for sold-out stadiums all over the globe.

Oasis is about as good as this year's Detroit Lions.

Score 10 for Ringo!

4. I saw Zak Starkey play with The Who, and he was incredible.
Probably the closest thing they've had to Keith Moon since his passing (in fact, I think Pete Townshend might have actually said as much). Simon Phillips is an amazing drummer technically, and plays things that are so stunningly ridiculous in their complexity I just have to laugh out loud, but he wasn't right for The Who. Kenney "yet another all-snare-drum fill" Jones never did anything for me. (Although oddly enough, I've always found the all-snare-drum fills in the various projects of Bob Mould to be strangely compelling. Go figure.)

Don't get me wrong. There can never be another Keith Moon, but Zak Starkey comes pretty damn close.

/Cue the "it's not The Who without Moon" people in 5...4...3...

20. Ringo Starr may not be Neil Pert
But there's a reason he's nicknamed the "human metronome". He can keep time as well as or better than anyone else behind a set.

All that brilliant primitive multitracking The Beatles pioneered just wouldn't have been possible without Ringo.

And on their best night, Oasis can't carry the Who's jockstraps.

26. I love the (possibly apocryphal) story about Ringo's drumming...
Edited on Mon Dec-08-08 12:42 AM by gmoney
in the 60s, John, Paul, and George always won the lists for "UK's best guitarist" and "UK's best bassist" etc. but Ringo never won...

A journalist supposedly asked John about this, "do you not think Ringo's the best drummer in the UK?" to which he is said to have replied "Ringo's not even the best drummer in the Beatles."
