I'm about to watch the best movie you've probably never seen.
Gene Hackman's 1974 classic "The Conversation".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Conversation

It's an open secret that the part Hackman played in Will Smith's Enemy Of The State was if not a continuance of the '74 role then an homage to it at the very least.

I've been trying to get my hands on this one for a long time. I finally did it.

1. My dear Prisoner_Number_Six...
You're right...I haven't seen it.

I have heard that it's fantastic!

Hope you enjoy it...

BTW, did you get my voicemail?

2. I probably have it but haven't listened to it yet.
My phone's been figuratively off the hook for a few days- I've been going through a bit of a mental depression. Thankfully it was a mild one and they don't happen often any more, but when they do it it's best to just zone out for a while.

I'll listen tomorrow.

4. I liked that movie also.
Although I always saw a twinge of 1984 and paranoia as themes in it.

7. John Cazale was only in 5 movies (plus some old footage in Godfather 3)
The Godfather
The Conversation
Godfather II
Dog Day Afternoon
The Deer Hunter

Hell of a track record, eh?

I should watch that movie again sometime.

9. saw it in the theaters when it was first released.
I was only 12 at the time. some of the stuff was over my head but after repeated viewings later it is one of my favorite films ever.

the dvd sits on my shelf still in shrink wrap.

11. I even saw it in a theater with one of the cinematographers doing a Q&A
It is a true masterpiece. Bill Butler, who is the cinematographer credited on the film gave a great session.

He did not film the park scene around which the entire film revolves. That was Haskell Wexler. I doubt any film could completely contain the two egos of Coppola and Wexler.

But he did do the rest of the movie and had some great stories to tell.

Some day I hope to understand how the man who did this film, Apocalypse Now, two great Godfather films and a pretty good version of Dracula could make as awful a movie as the Robin Williams film Jack.

14. It actually was turning up fairly regularly on AMC for a while there.
I saw it there several times a few years ago.

The Conversation is one of the scariest non-horror movies I've ever seen. The end almost never fails to raise the hairs on the back of my neck. (It helps to be a little paranoid to get the full effect of the movie.)
