Poll question: Favorite computer that Captain Kirk destroyed?
And, at least from initial run, he didn't outwit the Nielsen 1000...

1. Norman, of course...
Edited on Tue Dec-02-08 10:39 AM by Orsino

...though Mudd gets a lot of credit for his delivery of the killer line: "Listen carefully, Norman. I'm lying."

edit: The more I think about it, though, the more I like M-5's decision to "die," which is all the more affecting for the significant pause and the flat delivery of the lines. It's pretty damned cool that via pure logic, M-5 arrived at a moral conclusion that eluded his creator.

4. Cap'n Dunsel supplied the drama as well as the logic, yeah.

Oops: and much of the illogic, presumably.

7. Just another computer of many - I only had 8 choices plus Spock...
:D

On TOS, it was like an enemy computer every third week. :7

Not that that was a bad thing, those 1960s fears rocked and were played up as OTT as possible... they weren't entirely wrong, but not entirely right either.

10. Scary horn
I may have chosen the oracle, too. Although I like the war room in "A taste of Armageddon." I'm a sucker for gear noises and smoke in my computers. Out of the list, I think you have to say it takes a real captian to take out a papier mache god!

6. I have an actual piece of equipment in my lab called an "M-5"...
So I had to pick that choice. I can't see this equipment without thinking about Star Trek...
