I have the worst cold EVER
I'm coughing, have a runny nose that won't stop, etcetera. I've been awake for an hour. During that period of time, I have contemplated buying stock in Kleenex, and wondered what it was I did to deserve this. Let's contemplate how sick I am.

1. If the Seahawks called and invited me to watch practice this morning, I'd have to say "no".
2. Chocolate doesn't even sound appetizing right now.
3. I'm wondering if I can get a bulk discount on chicken soup.
4. If all 100 of People magazine's Sexiest Men showed up at our front door, I'd ask them if they could go to the store and get me some more Puffs.
5. If everything at Nordstrom was a dollar, I still couldn't make myself get dressed.

Is there anyone else out there with a cold? What are you doing to feel better?
Julie

1. I had it
Sleep, tea, snuggling under a down comforter, and lots of Formula 44 D helped me. My voice is still croaky and I have a cough that sounds as though I'm in the last stages of consumption but I feel fine now.

Hope you feel better soon. :hi:

2. How long was it before you started feeling better?
I'm so sorry you're sick, too. (We can be miserable together.)

Formula 44D? Looks like my husband is making a trip to the grocery store. :woohoo:

It didn't last really long. Maybe four.

3. I had some sort of upper respitory virus (I think it was a bit more than a cold)
4 weeks later it still lingers (although much better). Went to the doctors got antibiotics (because it looked like it was also a sinus infection). Got Flonase (which hasn't helped all that much). Took a crap load of vitamins and decongestents and antihistmines. Nothing really helped all that much, just time.

5. nomad1776, I hate upper respiratory viruses
They BLOW, don't they? Plus, doctors will not prescribe antibiotics for sinus infections anymore. They're "ineffective", despite the fact they were the only thing that worked, at least for me.

I hope you'll be feeling much better soon. :hi:

7. I hope you are feeling better as well
I was lucky. I got a PA. Told her what meds I wanted and she prescribed them. I think the whole antiboitics are ineffective for a sinus infection is not correct. If the sinus infection is viral in nature, then yes it's not going to work. However if the infection is a seconday bacterial infection they will work. I suspect I should have gone back for another course. I was slowly getting better while taking them. When the 10 days were up, that improvement slowed down greatly.

The other thing that helps a great deal is a netti pot. They are great for colds, sinus infections and upper respitory issues.

9. I have a Neti pot
The last time I tried it, though, I got more water all over the bathroom and down the front of me than in my nostrils. ;-)

I'll give it another shot, though.

Let's hope this makes all of us cold-free for awhile, because we're building antibodies that'll fight them off...

:hi:

21. Turn your head sideways
with your two nostrils one directly above the other. Keep your head level. Try to get a good seal with the spout of the pot. Finally pour slowly. It sometimes gets a little messey but not as bad as you are describing.

4. I've had two colds in a row. Theraflu works wonders.
Edited on Tue Dec-02-08 01:02 PM by Jamastiene
I had one last week and I'm trying to get over one this week. I should just go ahead and buy stock in Theraflu. I've sure used enough of it. I'm getting ready to microwave some water again for another dose now. It makes me kind of loopy, but I don't really care, because I'm sick anyhow. I can blame it on the fever.

6. Jamastiene, let's call the broker
He or she should give us some kind of discount for buying Theraflu/Kleenex stock. It's the humane thing to do.

I see there's another poster in desperate need of chocolate today. It's one of those days, isn't it?

I hope you'll feel better soon!
Julie

p.s. Of course, the last episode of "Real Housewives of Atlanta" was LAST week. I don't even have that to comfort me right now. :scared:

8. This has been the worst cold or two colds I have ever had.
I honestly don't know whether to count it as one cold or two, because there was that short 1 day break between bouts of fever, chills, nausea (I always get nauseated when I get a cold or flu), chest congestion, runny nose, coughing, sneezing, and whimpering.

I've whimpered A LOT over the last couple weeks. Chocolate and vodka would be nice right about now. Does liquor get old? I have about two swigs left out of a pint from years ago where I drank for New Year's Eve.

13. Jamastiene, I think the vodka's probably okay
It tastes better if you put it in the freezer before consumption. ;-)

My husband is laughing about the whining. He won't be laughing quite so hard when he gets it. I'm already tired of blowing my nose.

I hope we all stay healthy for the rest of the winter.

10. I've had that cold--several times--but not this year. Miserable. Just miserable
and unable to do anything.

The only thing to do is climb into bed and sleep. Watch a little TV and sleep some more.

Hope you feel better soon.

11. When I get that sick I use Theraflu or NyQuil (or the generics)...
Edited on Tue Dec-02-08 01:50 PM by redqueen
but I hardly ever get sick. I usually just get super congested and get ear infections. Those are fun.

I also use a humidifier. During the winter I use one at night whether or not I'm sick.

Hope you feel better soon. :pals:

Not as sick as you, but sick enough I got to leave work early. I have a stuffy/runny nose and I pretty much feel like pooh. x(

I'm taking Emergen'C and Zinc, and last night I took a tylenol pm and slept for 9 hours. hehe

Last time I was sick with cold or flu was Fall 2005. I'm sure I'm due for a whopper!
