1. I've found it helps to stop gradually.
Cold turkey means a two- or three-day headache for me. But if I just gradually cut down, four cups a day, three, two, one, it often doesn't hurt at all.

2. Your nervous system invented the withdrawal.
Your removal of caffeine is just the catalyst. And I agree with billyskank, slowly wean yourself off, those headaches can be nasty. I have seen people actually fall into a depression.

3. I've had caffeine headaches, but they go away pretty fast for me
I drink coffee, but not every day, and I try not to make it a regular occurrence. I've pretty much stopped drinking all sodas as well.

I like coffee (especially black), but I know it's something to have in moderation.

4. A doctor I know from grad school thought that inpatients...
...who drink coffee should get a caffeine drip. Seriously, it sounds like a joke, but he believed that they didn't need caffeine withdrawal exacerbating whatever problem put them in the hospital in the first place. Needless to say, he was rather fond of a cup o' joe himself. :)
