What causes bruises on dogs?

Pip has symmetrical bruises on the side of her tummy. They've been there for about two weeks. She seems to feel fine, but I might take her to the vet anyways.

What could be causing this?

2. I don't know what's wrong woth Pip, but I had a dog that

ingested rat poson and was told to look for any bruising of the skin.
(He was treated with vitK injections for many weeks following the ingestion)
Everything went well, thank goodness, and he was fine.

5. No, It's probably just a bruise...like we get bruises.

I googled it - seems like most of the time it's just like our "black and blues".
