and they went to school in New England (in the early 80's - pre-school)

and to elementary school in the bible belt in the middle 80's

and went to school in the South West and the West (CA) in the 90's

and on the West Coast (CA) in the early '00 and then I had another

and he was schooled in the South West and the North East and I NEVER

had any school call me about fucking T-Shirts! :wtf: Maybe they were

scared of me?! :P  And many of the T-Shirts had political sayings.

I guess times have changed or parents have become wimpy because

I'd be kicking ass and taking names to protect my kids rights!!

6. My kids went to school in the late 80s, early 90s,
and it seems to me that they weren't allowed to wear clothing with ANY kind of logo. Hate to be a fuddy-duddy, but I kind of agree with that. School clothes should be a little more conservative than play clothes. Many inner city schools now have kids wear uniforms. There seems to be some psychological thing about dressing better for school than for hanging out, and the kids behave better.

10. Where were you located?
That could be the difference....

.... or the parents. ;)

I disagree. Public school is just that... PUBLIC!!!

If I wanted my kid censored at school,

I'd send them all to parochial school! NEVER!!!!! ;)

But... I never wanted my kids censored... EVER!!!

That would really PISS me off!! :grr:

14. Small rural town (pop. 1000)
about 80 miles east of Dallas. And I think that children must be taught what is appropriate behavior, and that includes not allowing inappropriate behavior. I'm sure your children are well-brought up, but not everyone's children are. I was proud of my parenting; however, when my son was in middle school he got in trouble for writing a vulgar expletive in a textbook. He was testing his boundaries, and the school and I defined them for him. Ideally, schools and parents are partners in teaching children.

13. Strangely, anti-authoritarian me agrees.
Looking back at it, I am glad to have gone to prep school and had to wear a oxford shirt, uniform tie and sweater to school and a blazer to weekend events and religious services. It sucked, but it sucked for everybody evenly. It was egalitarian. Nobody had the cool new sneakers or fancy jeans. It knocked the haves down to the level of the have-nots. There were less distractions.

scrappers... they became artists and musicians and organizers that could kick your ass!! :D

They have never been afraid to be themselves or speak their minds, trust me. :P

I was also subjected to authority and "being the same" and uniforms and I BROKE OUT!!!

I played guitar instead of the Melodica and Piano and I hung out with "those kids"

and I THRIVED!!! I am richer for it and damn my parents... for not knowing any better!! :grr:

But for that slight transgression and the 'old ways'; I forgive them. They did their best!
