Good morning Lounge
Another day started. The weekend is coming closer, Christmas is coming closer. Yesterday after work I went to the Christmas Market the first time this year - to have a Glühwein (hot spiced red wine) - OK, I had two. But one was for AirmensMom. I tell you ... I felt the alcohol when I got home
Will go Saturday again with a friend.

Picture of the day (which one is the real kitty :) )

11. I haven't learned it.

I know a few phrases. Mostly obscene ones.

Learning to speak German is something I've been promising myself I'd do for years. I might have to get those Rosseta Stone CDs.

Or just randomly. Eventually, everyone on the job site is saying horrific things about each others genitals and parentage without realizing it. It's quite fun.

Hot spiced wine? Not sure if I'd like it, although I have a recipe for it. Obviously you enjoy it though. And blaming the second glass on AirmensMom! Shame on you!

It's only Thursday. This week seems to be dragging. Grrrrrr . . . for some reason, I just want it to be over with. I have no real good reason to think that, just do.

:hi: :loveya:

It is tasty, honestly. Very popular on German Christmas Markets. It is actually a big part of it. No sense in going to the Market without having a Glühewein. :D
I asked AirmensMom and she told me to drink one for her ... who am I to say no to that?

I am thinking about leaving early but I have no real good reason either. Guess I work till at least 4pm. Had a hard time getting out of bed this morning.

Now I wish that I would have called in sick yesterday. All the info. that was promised to me never materialized. Oh well, maybe today.

Yes, tomorrow (Friday) I'm going to a performance of Handel's Messiah, and on Saturday going to a party. A colleague puts on this fabulous annual holiday party. It's a lot of fun, and I go early to help with the cooking and prep work. It's a blast!

Maybe that's why I can't wait for the weekend! ;)

Mmmm hot, spiced wine sounds delicious :9 Does one use a regular wine? How is it made? Please share a recipe with us....

I found out yesterday that there is no "official political" entity that is my town  I live in a small hamlet and local politicians have come to my house to chat me up every once in a while, but my town does not exist as anything other than a zip code. What a weird concept.

My picture today is an old one of what I called (until yesterday) the downtown part of my hamlet.

The building on the left is still there, it is a tavern with a rich history:

Have a great day!

41. Here you go
- 750ml bottle of inexpensive dry red wine (no need to splash out on something expensive, but it should be drinkable. I usually just use whatever red wine is on sale at the supermarket.)
- 2/3 cup of raw cane sugar or white sugar, or non-artificial sweetener of your choice
- Juice and peel of one small lemon
- 2 cardamon pods
- 4 cloves
- 2 bay leaves
- 2 cinnamon sticks

Put everything in a heavy bottomed pan. Stir to melt the sugar. Heat the mixture over low heat, and leave for about an hour - it should never boil, just sort of seethe.

Serve in small mugs (straining out the peel and spices)

from this page http://www.justhungry.com/2006/12/recipe_gluhwein_mulled_wine_fo.html

That picture looks really interesting. It reminds me of a scene in the movie "Green tomatoes"

50. How I miss the German Christmas markets.
The one we had in Kitzingen was nowhere near as elaborate as the Christkindlmarkt in Nuremberg, but it was still a beautiful, awe-inspiring thing. I remember listening to the all-male Christmas choir singing lovely carols in the candle-lit square. Breathtaking...

The small Christmas Markets are sometimes more fun than the big ones, they are not that much commercialized.
