My doctor really tried to push a flu shot on me

At the end of my check-up she asked me if I had gotten a flu shot to which I replied no. She said I should get one because "once you are diagnosed with asthma the flu can hit you harder and you will be sick longer." Then she left and said she'd see me in 4 months (she's really fucking needy) and told me to wait there for somebody. So I wait, and wait and finally a nurse enters with a flu shot for me.

I inform her that I don't want one. She was surprised but said ok. Now I could leave but on the way out the doctor calls me into her office and says, "I thought we discussed you getting a flu shot."

I responded, "Sure we did but I didn't say I wanted one. Besides, those things cause autism."

She was disappointed in me. So fucking pushy with the flu shots. :eyes:

ps: She was also upset when she found out my lung test went well and that my lungs were fine. She pretty much intimated it was the meds she gave me and I had a lucky day. I think she really wanted my lungs to show something bad.

When I was in the Navy, I'd get a flu shot twice a year and I swear I was sick on average 8-10 times per year, each time for about 2-4 days. Every subsequent year since being out I get less and less sick. This last year, I was only sick twice for maybe a day each time.

Flu shots prevent the particular form of influenza that they are formulated against. They do not prevent anything other than the particular strains of flu. It does not prevent colds, gout, scabies or anything else.

Have you considered that you get sick less because you are no longer in the Navy? If you were on ship you were in close contact with lots and lots of people under less than ideal sanitary conditions? Or if you were on base you are in contact with people coming in from all over the world?

The flu is not a bad cold. It wipes you out from ten to thirty days.

Bottom line: your evidence of the inefficacy of influenza vaccinations leaves everything to be desired.

So far they've worked for me, and I'm no more mentally weird than usual - which is plenty. YMMV. I was always told when I was young I had "mild asthma" I have allergies. Most of the time my pulmonary function tests have been great. Allergies set mine off. Whatever causes the asthma, its important to avoid it. If it is a cat, then either allergy shots or getting rid of the cat or Sniffa I guess. You should educate yourself before posting such drivel. Each year the flu varieties developing in southeast Asia are studied and scientists predict which of them will spread. These are the ones the vaccine is developed against. Last year's prediction wasn't very good, so the flu shot gave only partial protection.

My wife has scarring in her lungs from a case of the flu from last year, and that was with the vaccine reducing the severity of symptoms. Influenza, that is, the real flu, is not to be fucked with.

144. I got a flu shot this year, just to be proactive in giving the tadpoles autism.

I usually don't though. I got the flu in '88 and '89 and was sick as a dog both times, but once I started taking vitamins regularly, I've never gotten it again.

They talked me into it this year though, just because they said it could be a real problem if I got it while pregnant, and I figured, why not get the tadpoles infected with autism now, just to get it over with?
