Write an "I Am" poem, and post it.
Just for fun. :)

Here's an easy tool if you want help. Feel free to add to it, re-arrange it, change it, make it yours.

http://ettcweb.lr.k12.nj.us/forms/iampoem.htm

Mine:

I Am

I am green-eyed and fiery.
I wonder what the stars smell like.
I hear the mountain singing.
I see the grasshopper's moon.
I want it inside of me again.
I am a blazing thorn tree.

I pretend to follow the tea-trail,
to laugh politely,
to cherish the tact of it all.
I feel like I'm drowning
in someone else's throat.
I touch the swallow's mountain.
I worry that no one will see.
I cry at the moon like a night-damned dog.
I am a green flame,
a molten emerald,
a smoking jungle ash.

I understand that I wasn't the reason,
but only the excuse.
I say my prayers to scoop-tailed ravens.
I dream of a silent pillow, of curls laid
calm and dry. I try to breathe unbrokenly,
to eat joy hand over fist.
I hope to live beyond my burns.
I am a green-eyed fire.

1. I Am The Decider
I am the decider.
I am the one who helps you put food on your family.
I am not a dictator,
but my job would be a lot easier if I were.
I am the man who sent Heckuvajob Brownie
to save New Orleans in its hour of need.

I am above the law.
I am fluent in Mexican.
I am a proud veteran of the Texas Air National Guard,
because if I'd joined the real Air Force they might have tested me for cocaine.
I am the best brush clearer in all of Texas.

I am America's worst nightmare.
I am the decider.

2. Here's my attempt at an "I Am" poem...
Edited on Fri Dec-05-08 08:00 PM by RetroLounge
I Am

I am grounded yet feel that I was not alway so.
I wonder if gravity is really just a personal issue with me when
I hear voices late at night, telling me attractive lies.
I see angels beyond the moonlit windows, beckoning me and
I want to follow them, but i've forgoten how to fly.
I am grounded yet feel I was not alway so, and so at night

I pretend i have just landed, the morning bed my airstrip, and when
I feel my landing gear retract into the mattress
I touch the runway of my dreams, awakening to the clouds.
I worry that these dreams are coming less often, and it seems
I cry out in my need, descending back into the pillow where
I am sleep, I am dream, I am nothing else but endless need.

I understand my limitations do not involve being land-bound.
I say my usual speech, point out the emergency exits and
I dream they open at 20,000 feet and the angels walk in.
I try to be angelic myself most times, or at least no trouble for you.
I hope I've succeeded even in small ways that you've noticed.
I am grounded yet feel that I was not alway so.

I am hard as granite, tough as nails.
I have sailed to the far edge of the world and back,
I have lived to tell the tale.
If my outside looked anything like my inside,
it would have needle tracks, razor scars,
a flaming heart tattooed on the left tit. But outside

I am a rounded kind of woman, robust, ruddy, fair.
I should be up a mountain somewhere, yodeling.
I could pick you up in one hand,
throw you like a lawn dart.

I am watching you you swagger down the sidewalk.
I will write you your own theme song.
I can put a corona of light around you
I can make you a chocolate chip at the center, melting.

I am hard as granite, tough as nails.
I am the woman who fits you with a halo
I am the woman who burns your image onto her eyeballs

Which are, unfortunately, soft as eyeballs.

(Yours is awesome btw, Oktoberain! We need more poetry threads around here.)

Edited on Fri Dec-05-08 10:24 PM by Orrex
L.A.'s fine the sun shines most of the time
And the feeling is laid-back.
Palm trees grow
Rents are low
But you know I keep thinkin' 'bout
Makin' my way back.

Well I'm New York City born and raised,
And I've tried, but it won't let me go.
L.A.'s fine, but it ain't home.
New York's home, but it ain't mine no more.

I am I said
To no one there
And no one heard at all
Not even the chair

I am I cried
I am, said I
And I am lost
And I can't even say why.

That's from memory. Neil Diamond totally ripped me off.

On edit: Typo!

13. Confusion
Confusion

Bifurcated, yolk and white;
my mind is an egg.
On the busy sidewalk,
fried, firm.

Separated emotion.
On the busy dance floor,
sometimes sunny-side up,
pickled in a jar.

Within the fragile shell,
Eclectic bombardment.

14. I am not even poetic when I have help! Here goes...
I Am

I am sentimental yet cynical
I wonder what he looks like in the morning
I hear boudrhan beating of my grandma's heart
I see into the void of space
I want everything I cannot have
I am sentimental yet cynical

I pretend have it all together
I feel too angry not to care
I touch the starlit sky
I worry that I will never be unafraid
I cry about almost anything
I am sentimental yet cynical

I understand that life's not fair
I say Tiocfaidh ár lá
I dream I am invincible
I try to get it right
I hope for happy endings
I am sentimental yet cynical

I was that smithy under the tree
so young and strong,

Hot iron to shape,
fluid from heat
the hammer's rhythm driving the beat.

Now I'm old; over the hill
I'm round the bend
I've had my fill

Eye M they have the symbol above the pyramid, pretty and neat.
Eye M they know the top, invisible, or incomplete.

Eye M they care for brother when in danger.
Eye M they miss the love of a stranger.

Eye M a symbol with sole meaning to each
Eye M pick a meaning lost and found no need to preach

Eye M they in strength, can make themselves better
Eye M they are to weak to include those considered worse.

Eye M they could probably make this rhyme
my poem I think on some of the time.
you asked, I chipped in my dime.

I have no affiliation with any groups, nor do I judge them
I just thought this was a fun play on words.

(Edit: They probably would have remembered to spell check it also ) :)

i am all that which is not seen:
the bend of a willow
from an early winter air
the tracks of meek and nutmeg-colored fawns
through the white chapel of the snow-covered graveyard

i am all which is not heard:
the whirl and blur of the ladybird's fiery wings
or the sorrow of widows across the globe
crying for slain lovers and children

i am that i am:
all that appears
and all that does not

you will know me without ever knowing me
at all

Heads up... mine is depressing. Sorry.

I Am

I am tired yet stubborn
I wonder if I'll ever give up dreams
I hear the wind
I see the leaves fall
I want to ride away
I am tired yet stubborn

I pretend the pain is not there
I feel the wanderlust of a child
I touch the rain and wind
I worry someone will know it truly hurts
I cry when I know life can't be planned
I am tired yet stubborn

I understand change is constant
I say life is not always what you make it
I dream of running away
I try to forget some dreams of mine
I hope my wanderlust will fade
I am tired yet stubborn

45. I am most ill and I'm rhymin' and stealin'
Torching and crankin' and rhymin' and stealin'
Robbin' and raging busting two in the ceiling
I'm wheeling, I'm dealin'
I'm drinking, not thinking
Never cower, never shower
and I'm always stinking
Yo ho ho and a pint of Brass Monkey
And when my girlie shakes her hips, she sure gets funky
Skirt chasing, free basing
killing every village
I drink and rob and rhyme and pillage

Most illingest b-boy
I got that feeling
Cause I am most ill and I'm rhymin' and stealin'

I've been drinking my rum, a Def son of a gun
I fought the law and I cold won
Black Beard's weak
Moby Dick's on the tick
Then I pull out the jammy and squeeze off six
My pistol is loaded
I shot Betty Crocker
Deliver Colonel Sanders down to Davey Jones' locker
Rhymin' and stealin' in a drunken state
And I'll be rockin' my rhymes all the way to Hell's gate

Ali Baba and the forty thieves, y'all.

47. here you go -
Edited on Sat Dec-06-08 02:08 PM by blueraven95
it's rough with no editing, and I'm pretty sure it breaks the rules, but that's how it goes.

I am

I am dreaming
- I think -
I am writing a "What
I Did on My Summer Vacation" essay
where
I was an ambassador for the intergalactic UN
except
it was really the intersolar system UN and
I was the ambassador for Earth
I went to Pluto
still a Planet and not yet relegated
to second-class citizenship
I saw talking flowers and traffic jams in the sky

I am dreaming-
but my cat is nudging me
and the alarm clock is braying
bringing me back

I am dreaming
of robots and aliens and jet packs
of the Back to the Future utopia I was promised
not where I am
with dirty dishes and work and bills
and the reality I still
can't believe in
no matter how many years
I am in the Real World

57. My attempt:
I Am

I am bitchy funny
I wonder will diet and exercise really make me live longer and is it worth it
I hear my husband and daughter laughing
I see a cat taking a sunbath
I want my daughter to live in as much bliss as she can stand
I am bitchy funny

I pretend to sleep--to rest
I feel warm sunlight
I touch your face
I worry you will think me stupid
I cry because my father died and I miss him
I am bitchy funny

I understand people love to laugh
I say chocolate makes everyone happy
I dream we will die together of old age
I try to tell you every day I love you
I hope never to die wondering why I didn't do something
I am bitchy funny

61. I am by Ekirh
I am the life of the party
I am cherised by all
I am the cool during summer
I am the warmth during fall

I am the joy of my wife
I soothe her when she cries
I am the twinkle that you see
when you look at my daughter's eyes

I am loved by man
I have many friends to entertain
I am the gudiance people seek
When they need advice to remain sane

I am a liar
I am nothing said above
I am just a regular nobody
who wishes death will soon come.

62. I am
I am a lost soul

Of the moon that shines over the ocean

I am the sounds of the waves crashing into the shore.

The silence of the forest that scare you at night

I am the earth your feet walk upon

The blanket that warms you on a cold night

The hands to hold or help you in your time of need

I am simply me

I am a lost soul
