Did a Disney film win once, or is this the first time a film aimed at children won the top award?

1. Yeah, yeah. Very funny. LOTR is no more or less childish than most
of the films to win best movie.

Edited on Mon Mar-01-04 04:25 PM by supernova
of "kiddy flick" if you think LoTR belongs in that category. Mary Poppins was also pic of the year. I think also Beauty and the Beast, but not certain. ARe you saying LoTR is kids' stuff?

3. If you're referring to THE RETURN OF THE KING....
...it's hardly a "children's film."

Anyone who thinks LOTR is a kid's movie, obviously hasn't seen it.

6. I dunno, but a few years ago, I was really pissed
because Babe didn't beat out Braveheart. They both came out in the same year, Braveheart was just another formula flic, while Babe was really original.

7. That was the same year "Pulp Fiction" was nominated...
I was really pissed Pulp Fiction didn't win...Babe too...BUT, I hadn't seen Braveheart, and once I did, I didn't mind that it won (I really liked it). pp23

I'm 99% sure that Pulp (awesome) was nominated in '94, along with Quiz Show (brilliant) Shawshank (masterpiece) 4 Weddings and a Funeral (not too bad) and the actual winner, Forest Gump (piece of shit advocating the life plan of doing exactly what you're told all the time.) It was quite a year.

8. I wouldn't call a movie rated PG-13 a "Kiddie Flick"
Edited on Mon Mar-01-04 04:18 PM by LynneSin
Too much violence and the plot can be difficult for younger kids to understand or follow. Just because it's rated PG-13 doesn't make it a kiddie flick, just means that it could be too much for kids under 13 to handle.

9. I agree. Take the kiddies to a family
movie such as “The Passion of the Christ” :P

13. I can't believe all the people who automatically assumed you meant LOTR
I assumed you meant Nemo, especially since you mentioned Disney. Sheesh. Paranoid people.
