What to do when facing the prospect of spending Christmas Eve alone?
For the first time in 11 years. Some have said church, but I don't belong to any, and I'm against the whole organized religion thing anyway... I could volunteer, but I'd still feel so fucking alone.

I dislike Christmas...

1. If you lived closer
You'd be more than welcome here, dude.

I fake enthusiasm for my kids' sake. I haven't been very convincing lately.

2. My little MB will be with her dad on xmas eve and
since I am recently separated, I will be spending xmas eve alone as well. My mom is going to come stay with me, but it's still alone. :(

I think we shall go out for dinner.

4. Where in Ohio are you?
if you're near Cincinnati, you can come with me and my wife to the out-laws' house in Hamilton. I'll warn you though: they're Republicans. On the bright side, since the election they have been strangely quiet about politics.

8. ok. I used to live in Columbus and often spent holidays alone too
if it helps. Sometimes I preferred it, and sometimes it got lonely.

I'd say see if you have some friends up there who also are not going anywhere.

Good luck!

7. Same thing I've done every year for the last 20 or so...
Wrap presents, listen to classical music on the radio or watch a movie, and be glad I'm not stuck with somebody else's holiday agenda. I like my solo Christmas eves.

9. Volunteer to serve food to the homeless
That'll put your feelings into perspective, especially if some of them are children. And you'll probably feel great about volunteering for weeks.

12. Or read to the elderly in you local retirement facility.
There are a great many lonely souls in such places who would be glad of a little company and giving it could well brighten your Christmas Eve.

10. I haven't spent Christmas Eve alone per se, but....
....with the exception of last year I've spent it away from my own family (i.e. my parents and sisters). Given that my mother is Ukrainian and Christmas Eve is the most special of the nights--moreso than Christmas Day and to the extent that we opened our presents on Christmas Eve, not Christmas Day--I felt a little sad being away from them. My wife's family doesn't do anything on Christmas Eve.
