I guess now is the time and place - I got shot the other night
In the leg - and luckily its healing up nicely

I was so freaked out, never having been shot before.

Basically I was in Oakland after a flight. Being tired I ended up getting lost looking for the 580 entrance from the Airport. I pull over at a convenience store, and from no where I hear this "POP! POP!" and suddenly I feel this warm, slightly painful sensation in my thigh. I look down and there's this blood stain on my left leg, on the side. Luckily I could still walk to my car, grab a towel and drive home. Honestly, I don't think I was thinking right.

So I arrive home, and the wife proceeds to freak out. I haven't lost that much blood - but my jeans are soaked in it. The car is OK.

Anyway, long story short, flesh wounds aren't as fun as they are cracked up to be.

3. Yeah, that's what I said later that night
I honestly think I wasn't the one being shot at, especially since the shot came from the side.

Also, it didn't go too deep. It was only a 22, and although IT FUCKING HURT, I could still walk and drive.

Honestly, I don't think the person who shot me intended to do so - granted I'm a bit more worried for whomever they were aiming for.

12. The hospital did. I have no idea if anyone else was.
I hope not...

I had to talk to a cop, who was (1) flabbergasted that I drove home and THEN went to the doc and (2) in the end, happy I did, because chances are I might have bled to death at the convenience store in Oakland. Cops don't always respond as quickly out there.

the area west of the Coliseum is the worst part of Oakland for shootings and murders. it sounds like you were right over there if you were looking for 580.

23. Yes - and it seems I do this for a living
Yet - it is my home that I get shot

Should I be mad at this point?

The funny thing is that I'm not - probably because I have no idea who shot me, and didn't see their face

And, of course, because it did not hit bone, didn't damage the muscle much, just embedded itself with a burning sensation

That was just fucking WEIRD!

67. .22s are known for travelling up arteries and veins and lodging in vital organs
Like the heart, say.

:scared:

Glad you're okay.

I would guess the shooter was mabye 100-150 yards away and shot at somebody and missed. A .22 bullet fired level from chest height would drop a couple-three feet by the time it was a hundred or so yards out. Would also explain the last of penetration.

I know from personal experience that a .22 fired from a pistol will pentrate one side of a 55-gallon drum at point-blank range, so your shooter was not close.

Jeez.

49. They were loading me on a helicopter with my head about the size of a basketball
from swelling & bandages, and my arm was in a sling because of an AK bullet embedded near my shoulder blade. One of the chopper crew says "What happened to you?" I said, "I was shot." He said, "I always wondered. What did it feel like?" I asked him if he had ever been stung by a hornet. He said "Yes." I said, "Well, it doesn't feel anything at all like that."

77. Holy Crap, glad your OK
I'm reading a book right now on survival and how people often choose the wrong response to life threatening situations when they should know what they are doing is wrong. I would put yours right up there.
Enjoy your brews and watch mixing them with the Vicodin.

78. Yikes!
Is random gunfire normal in that area? You sound so blase about it. But I'm so glad you're all right.

OMG. Did you have a cell phone? Did you think to call 911 to come get you? Yikes!

Glad you are ok.
