1. A pony.
That's what I wanted when I was eight, anyhow. Or a Super Nintendo, which I didn't get either.

3. Books!
Junie B Jones books! They are short chapter books geared for that age group.

4. my (female) cousin's that age
her Christmas list includes Webkinz, Beanie Babies, anything Hannah Montana or Jonas Brothers, sudoku, Nintendo DS, and a few more things I can't remember.

6. I think that age of girls are into Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers.
I say Miley and not Hannah Montanna because my 6 year old niece is sooo over Hannah Montanna, but loves Miley Cyrus! Silly I know.

I know the American Girl dolls are popular for almost any age of girls. Of course they are expensive dolls. My little niece has 4 and is getting 2 more for Christmas. But she also loves the American Girl Doll books and those aren't pricey.

18. Hi Shell
My 8 year old daughter "thinks" she likes Miley Cyrus... but when she says that she likes her I point out her annoying anti-style and chimpmonkie voice and the fact that she springs forth from Billy Ray Cyrus's loins. I have fought the Hannah Montana wave of crap here for 3 or 4 years and I will not lose. As for the Jonas Brothers... I think I will just relent and allow her this 8 year old girl crush.

There will be NO American Girl Dolls on Gilligan's Island. They have to be formulated by the guy who started up eHarmony.com - they are the work of the devil.

7. I like to give things that kids can make.
Last year I gave my eight year old niece a kit that made a garden paver, she painted it and put her hand prints and date on it. It was really cute.

Check out your local craft store.

8. Ooh, memory lane time
American Girl stuff... books, dolls, etc. I credit that and the Dear America books (slightly older age group) with leading me into a history obsession. Now it's my major. :)

9. I don't know, but I'm going to be watching because I need to know.
I'm thinking of giving her a bag of money. Seriously, get a bunch of ones and/or twos, crisp if possible, and crinkle them up and put them in a (small, lol) gift bag.

I'm not really in her life anymore, so I don't know what she'd really like.

16. How about a box filled with craft or art items?
Markers, paper, glitter, beads, watercolors, scissors, glue, colored pencils and modeling clay are just a few ideas. Put these in a plastic storage container that she can slide under her bed or some kind of organizer.

Go down the craft isles at a store like Michaels and you'll see hundreds of ideas.

I think an 8 year old girl would love to open up a box of creativity.

17. My 8 year old (today!!)
Edited on Fri Dec-12-08 08:00 AM by dropkickpa
is into Junie B Jones and animal books, Hannah Montana, Nintendo DS puzzle games, she still likes stuffed animals, paint by number and craft stuff, and she's a big fan of all sorts of music.

*edited to add - Dropkid is very much NOT into dolls, never has been. She'll play with them for about 5 minutes and then they're never touched again. She much prefers animals.
