Some annoying person who I couldn't stand in my home town tracked me down. If I really wanted to be buddy buddy with the annoying people from my hometown I wouldn't have moved away from that part of Pennsyltucky and refused to attend my high school class reunions.

1. You have the right to refuse those "friend requests", ya know. *L*
I do it all the time... there are way too many people from back at my NC high school who want to 'catch up and chat', but who are conservative Repuke assholes, and were jerks as teenagers anyway.

2. yeah but my full name is out here and I'm just not keen on that
First, I have a very unique last name so I'm not overly keen on putting it out there for others to see. I guess that's my thing - if I could be just LynneSin it would be cool but the rest of it is like too much detail on the internet.

3. that's only part of why I do that
I'm very careful about how I'm presented on the internet. It wouldn't be too hard to track down who I really am, but it would actually take some work.

Facebook, schmacebook. I keep in touch with the people that I like from my past for a reason. I lose touch with others for a reason.

4. If I sign up again I'll just used a shorten last name and not put down my schools
I hate being exposed like that.

9. There is a solution to that...
I have a coworker who has a history she doesn't want to find her so she used a name that wasn't even close to her own name.

She gave out the fake name to people she wanted to be Facebook friends with, all of her other local friends found her through page-links and the people she is avoiding can't find her because they don't know anybody in common or her fake name.

15. That's why I stay as mim. Google my name and it's obvious.
My surname is came to amurka in 1738 and there are only a couple of other people with my name.

Better to stay offline with your name.

5. I'm sorry, but I simply do NOT get this whole "facebook" or "MySpace" thing. I did
sign up on "LinkedIn," because my sister asked me to, and because it's supposed to be a good social-networking site for business people, but I've found it to be a confusing interface and in general utterly worthless.

Furthermore, why in the world would I want to have to keep track of "friends," etcetera, on a site like Facebook or MySpace, when I can rarely even remember what I walked into a room to do?

"Information Overload," that's the phrase I'm looking for. And I don't need any more of that than I already have, thank you very much.

6. i'm ok with the socializing part - just not with people I've choose to ignore for 20+ years
Yes High School was that bad but that's what happens when you're a bleeding heart liberal in a school full of right-wing fundie nut jobs. I don't wish ill upon anyone - just have no desire to talk to any of them either.

7. So you confirm me as a friend on facebook, then announce you're NOT doing it?

Why do you hate me? I'm not from your hometown.

Edited on Thu Dec-11-08 09:10 PM by LynneSin
I sent a PM to Lost and said perhaps I should stay on there with my 2 lesbian friends. All my HS buddies would start a pray circle for me at the next class reunion.

11. Just change your name on there and don't add them as friends
Hell, our utterly useless real estate agent even tried to be our friend on there.

13. I don't do facebook or myspace. I guess you can call me a snob
but the people I want to have contact with from high school, well I still hang out with those people. If I don't have contact with you still, it is because I don't want to. Sounds harsh, but it is the truth.

14. well high school was just awful
if it wasn't for me watching the 76 Dem Convention and seeing Barbara Jordan speak - I might have ended up a racist asshole like some of those people are still today.

17. I enjoyed high school thoroughly, BUT some of us grew up and some
of us became self-righteous holier-than-thou assholes. I did go to a Christian school, but I managed to stay Christian without damning everyone else to hell. Those judgmental people can all kiss my ass.

I am glad that you didn't end up like those people!! Too bad for them.
