What really gets me is the woman who puts the bag with gold in her street side mail box and puts up the little flag.

2. Hell no.
I'd sell it on ebay or go to a pawn shop. I would never send it to a company who may be ripping you off in the mail.

3. There are places around here that I could take it to if I had some to sell.
I have a few pieces that I don't wear, but they were all gifts and I would hate to sell them. And I would be left with stones that I know I would never do anything with. So my pieces will continue to just sit around. Maybe one day Bella will appreciate them.

5. I saw on GMA that the new thing now is "selling gold" parties
Edited on Sat Dec-13-08 09:36 PM by Shell Beau
instead of tupperware parties. I think a lot do it because they need the money but also the cost of gold is up these days.

23. Yep...I've been to 2 in michigan and was probably invited to 10!

Very big thing going on this past summer. I must admit, I made 360 bucks between both parties. I had lots of earings without the match and scummy outdated old necklaces that weren't worth much to me. I was kinda surprised I got that much for junk.

**don't know much about it other than there were two ladies sitting at the table...they would take the jewelry and weigh it and look at it and then tell you how much they'd give you for the stuff. Hand you the cash and that was it. Kinda weird but hey...green is green nowadays.

6. I've thought the same thing. Even thought about posting about it.
I mean, why would a person put gold in a bag, send it to God-knows-who, and expect to get money back?

I think of myself as hugely naive, but even I wouldn't do this! Seriesly!

DU: if you gave out hundreds, some folks would complain that you didn't break it down into 20s.

15. You're telling me it's a scam?
I sure hope not. After all, I packed three bars of gold in a legal sized envelope. I put all my trust in that company.

The next thing you'll probably tell me is that the natural male enhancement ads are fake too.

25. Relax - It has to be true - it's on TV! That's the law!
I'm sure President Bush wouldn't allow any untruth to be uttered via the TV!
It's like, Sacred, ya know?
Like Congress...
You Betcha!

17. I saw a first-person report on that.
A woman reporter (for the life of me I can't remember which newspaper or magazine, but it was a big one) did it with good results. She called the service first (located in NYC), and then sent the stuff. When they received it, they phoned her with an offer. She accepted the offer, and had her check two days later. She was pleased with the transaction.

I suppose there are honest buyers, and there are scams.

24. Right, and then I'd just wait patiently for the check....
it amazes me that people actually do this, but this kind of business has been around for over 40 years that I am aware of, and I'm sure for much longer than that.

Of course, I don't have all that much old, unwanted scrap gold laying around either, so maybe I'm just cynical.

Seems odd. I guess better there than mailing it to these infomercial people.
