I really fucked up tonight
There is a woman that I was supposed to go out with at 6 this evening. I work third shift so my body is kind of used to sleeping during the day. At noon I laid down for a nap and set the alarm for 4 pm. Little did I know that I had accidentally hit a button on the alarm that changed the way it was supposed to go off. I usually have it set on a radio station so loud that it just about knocks me out of bed. However, the button I accidentally hit changed the alarm to the "rain storm" option. I slept right through the alarm.

I awoke at 8:40 tonight cussing myself. I called her on the phone and she was understandably pissed. That phone conversation lasted about 30 seconds. So I went on the dating site where we met and saw a message there from her. It said, "thanks. a lot."

So I wrote her a message that was the equivalent of a bouquet of flowers, saying how wonderful I thought she was and also saying that I was terribly sorry. I really do like her and I really felt like a dick.

I just got done talking to her again a few minutes ago and all is well now. We are meeting for coffee in the morning and that's probably a testament to what a nice person she is. Most people would probably tell me to get fucked. And I'm not laying down again until after I see her. ;)

1. My dear Droopy!
Yikes!

Yeah, you fucked up...and she forgave you!

All may not be lost...

She sounds very tolerant of mistakes...

Can you stay awake the rest of the night?

Good luck tomorrow!

5. Yeah, I won't have any problem staying awake until this morning
I work 3rd shift, so between that schedule and some coffee I shouldn't have any problem. I don't think all is lost, but she confessed to me tonight that she was still recovering from a previous relationship and may not be ready for a new one yet. Maybe it was good to miss the date since it brought that out of her. But I'm going to hang around for a little while until she gets ready. I think she might be a keeper if I can get her to keep me.

2. Oops
I'm glad you worked things out for her, though.

It's not like you deliberately dissed her or anything.

3. Fucked up... and lucked out.
Strike one on you, Droopy. If you really like her, just make sure you really make strike two worth it, you know, the next time you do something insensitive. ;)

4. You met this woman via an online dating site? The reason I ask
is that I can't bring myself to do that. I tried once and got freaked out. How's that going for you overall?

6. Online dating has turned out to be good for me
I have a problem approaching women and doing it over the computer makes things a lot easier for me. I haven't found "the one" yet, but I have been out on a few dates. If you are a woman, just be sure to meet in a public place until you feel confortable with someone.

8. I don't know, man.
I appreciate your advice, but I tried that online stuff for maybe two weeks, tops, and the results were the same: men who were 15 years older than I was showed interest. I'm not a shallow person, and I'd go ten or so either way, but the whole thing freaked me out. I'm independent. The online guys were looking for something else. They wanted someone young and dependent. That freaked me out beyond measure.

10. I hear you
The women on dating sites have to put up with some shit sometimes. I hear a lot of them get solicited for cyber or phone sex, and, like you, get offers from guys who are old enough to be their daddies. You will also meet guys on there who are so nice and sweet and then when they get sex from you are nowhere to be found afterward.

So, I don't blame you for being leary. Personally, I'm 36 and I look for women who are 30-40 years old most of the time. The woman I'm interested in now is 29, but she's got her shit together. She's smart and independent.

27. I overheard a man saying that men should find a woman
half their age plus six years. By that math and logic, there's a 92 year old man out there for me somewhere. A lot of men don't want a woman who is their equal.

9. Yes, she is
No worries. I probably couldn't go to sleep tonight if I took a sleeping pill and washed it down with a double shot of whiskey. I appreciate the offer, though. :)

11. fwiw, when my son was living in SF,
he met a woman online who lived in Iowa. After visits back and forth, he ended up moving to Iowa and was there for about 3 years. They aren't together anymore but it wasn't a total disaster.

Hang in there.

12. That's a serious, long distance relationship right there
That must have been one great romance while it lasted.

The woman I'm seeing in the morning lives 4 miles away from me, so if this develops into a serious relationship neither one of us will have to give up anything to be with each other. I think I'd have a hard time with moving a long distance to be with someone. I love my family and most of us are within a 10 minute drive of each other. We've always been a close family. But I guess if it were love I'd have to make a really hard decision.

16. I guess this has happened to her before
A guy she was seeing didn't show up for a date and she didn't hear from him for a week. I think the fact that I did get back to her as soon as I could made her feel a little better.

There was a time when I was having trouble working the hours that I do. I worked 60 hours a week 11pm to 11am for a little over a year. I recently got a new position that I only have to work 9 hours a night on. It's still third shift and my body is just now, after two years of working nights, getting used to sleeping during the day and staying up all night. Unfortunately, it carries over into my off time on the weekend so my social life has been suffering.

18. Hahahaha
I live in four unit apartment building and I have a neighbor above me as well. She's not real noisey, but she likes to run the vacuum when I'm trying to sleep. She also has some sort of critter up there that likes to run around her apartment a lot- thumpety, thumpety, thump.

I long for a simpler time when I don't have to work nights, but for now it's the best paying gig I've ever had and I'm home every day. Got good benefits, too, so I can ill afford to give it up at this point being a crazy person and all. ;)

*Note to the newbies:

I'm a trucker and I take meds for my head.

hey, bud...

you work some off hours. you fell asleep. she will get that or she won't. you didn't fuck up, you fell asleep. ask her out for a date at 5am if she wants to feel the experience.

she gets it, she doesn't get it. either way, it is no reflection on you.

buck up my droop...

25. Glad she gave you another chance!
Have you tried using two alarm clocks? I have my radio alarm... but another one, as a back-up, across the room (set for 1/2 hour after the first one). It's an incentive to me to get up for the first alarm when I know the back-up one is across the room and I'll have to get up anyway to turn it off! lol

I don't have 3rd shift to blame - I'm just an insomniac. It can cause lots of relationship problems.
