Update on the baby girl who was in cardiac arrest.
She got a new heart on Saturday. Complete and total success. No sign of rejection. No compications.

Thanks to everyone for your good thoughts on this. This has been a very difficult time for the family knowing that in order for this little one to survive, someone else's child had to die.

1. Bittersweet. Glad to hear the little girl is doing well.
Sending her healing vibes and peaceful vibes for her family. My condolences to that family who donated the heart. May the child rest in peace. :grouphug:

2. So glad it worked out
for this family. Wonderful miracle. Hearts are so rare, baby hearts rarer still.

My condolences to the donor family; how awful for it to happen this time of year. May they find peace in the future.

3. That was fairly quick...
glad they didn't have to spend too long waiting and that the surgery was a success.

4. She was number one on the transplant list because
if they had to put her back on life support, she would only survive for seven days.

The whole thing is terrible.

6. What a relief for her and her family
But I can certainly see how they would have mixed emotions on the whole thing. How incredibly difficult.

7. My dear Midlo!
What a relief to hear this!

At least the other child's death was not in vain...

How very sad, though, still...

Good thoughts for both families...

10. I'm so glad
Even though I'm sad to know there must have been a baby that didn't make it for that to happen.

Thank you for the update.

17. If the family knows, they aren't saying.
We don't even know the age of the donor, just that he/she is 12 or under.

16. When I read your first thread about this
I thought the flu virus she had might have attacked the pericardium (tissue surrounding the heart).
I've known people who had this happen and have problems with their heart later.
It is amazing that she received a new heart! I hope the loss of the other child is a tiny bit less unbearable for the parents, knowing that another child could live because of their decision to donate.
