14. Funny nuoc mam story from the war
Some genius at the Pentagon came up with a scheme to install high-tech odor detectors along the Ho Chi Minh Trail, to keep track of Viet Cong troop movements by sniffing out their nuoc mam (which most Vietnamese are seldom without).

It boomeranged on them when the VC hung buckets of urine from trees along the route. The devices were unable to distinguish the urine from nuoc mam! The official Pentagon response? They discontinued use of the devices because they had "a too-broad spectrum'!

21. Funny Kimchee story...
My wife was on the way to Anchorage a few years ago.
About an hour into the flight she smelled a strange odor.
Several around her commented on it.
The cabin attendant became concerned and called the cockpit.
A few minutes later the flight engineer came back and sniffed around.
Fuel? Hydraulic fluid?
He went back to the cockpit and the co-pilot came back.
He sniffed around.
He went back to the cockpit and the gray haired captain came back.
He sniffed around.
Spied as Asian looking lady a few rows in front of my wife.
"Ma'am? Would you possibly have some kimchee with you?"
Well, yes, she did as a matter of fact. She was Korean and was taking some of her homemade kimchee to her son at Elmendorf Air Force Base.
The lid had popped due to the cabin pressure and the liquid had soaked the other stuff in her carry on.

10. I used to have a coworker who liked salmon.
I like salmon too but never bring my leftovers to work. She would. Ugh. Talk about smelling up the place.

One day another coworker dramatically and loudly said "OMG! It smells like somebody died in here! What the hell is that SMELL?"

Heheheh

13. Maybe you and your other coworkers could get
together and make up a sign and put it near the microwave informing people of what happens when you nuke fish in an office as far as smells.

The other awful smell is burnt popcorn. One time somebody set off the smoke alarm and the building had to be evacuated. It was totally burnt popcorn. That was bad. Smell must have lingered for weeks.

19. OMG ! I worked with someone that ate
so much cabbage & beet and fish/meat based lunch and would micro it everyday. To this day if I smell anything close I have bad flashbacks. I Felt bad for feeling that way they were good healthy meals but if your not use to that it's hard to take. I think Microwaves should not be in offices just in kitchens far from where everyone must do time, I mean work.

16. Someone who is really, really sel-fish!(pardon the pun)
People never cease to amaze me...how unaware they are of others. In a parking lot, waiting for pedestrians to go by, I'm very slow to make sure no one gets run over...then assholes wizz by so quickly as if the idea of elders and children don't even exist! What gets me are the folks crossing the streets or parking lots, that don't even look up to see if someone is coming! What are they thinking?

29. unaware they are of others
you said it, but I still feel sorry for most because to become that unaware, you must be in some type of pain and shutting yourself off- no? That is the way I need to think or I would be in more pain then I am now about the human condition.

20. We have a guy who microwaves a whole pound of bacon at
least twice a week. Yeah, I like bacon, but not so much I want its flavor permeating into everything I heat up in there. Perhaps your fish story has given me an idea for revenge. I wonder where I can get my hands on a few-days-old mackerel.

30. Oh I have a million microwave stories......someone likes to
nuke a broccoli dish which sends the aroma of a baby's dirty diaper across the office. :puke:

The no fish sign was up for awhile and now it's down. I wonder if it violates a labor law or something.

And now popcorn is off limits because of the number of times the fire department has had to roll to the building because of the automatic alarm.

We're talking a full commercial structure fire assignment, which involves approximately ten pieces of equipment with flashing red lights.

It's quite a sight, I'll admit that.

33. I love stuffed green peppers.
Hubby refuses to eat anything with green pepper in it so I'd sometimes buy the Stouffer's version and nuke them at work for a quick lunch. The former office boss next door (a nut case abuser who has since been fired) also hates green pepper and he complained loudly about how it made the office smell like green pepper. I made a point of checking with everyone else (who said they didn't mind the smell) and I proceeded to eat them a couple times a week just to pluck his nerves.

Finally he came into my office one day and told me I was "not allowed" to use the break area microwave to cook my food for lunch. I brought in a microwave of my own and cooked them in my own office with a fan blowing out into his office suite. He couldn't say jack about it and it made him absolutely nuts.

Yes, I AM that petty and it is called "offensive eating."

38. Simple solution.
I lemon, cut in half.
or 1/2 cup of lemon juice/water. heavy on the lemon juice.
micro on high 30-45 seconds.

should kill the smell IN the microwave.

vinegar works too. Smells like vinegar tho.

As for the outside lingering smell, you can always get a couple cans of Glade and march around the break room/office, in a very ostentatious manner.

3rd option.
defenestration.
( see wiki if needed)
