Smokie the cat is COVERED in catnip
So I decided to get the kitties a late xmas present. My two kitties hadn't liked catnip in the past but the vet told me as they got older that might change, and I noticed they really seemed to like catnip toys. So I brought some home from the store today.
As soon as I put down the bag with the catnip in it, Smokie stuck her head in it..So I pulled it out and put it on her cat tree..She jumped up and started sniffing..but instead of eating it...she started rolling it it..until she had it ALL over her body..As we speak she's running around the place like a nut..I don't think she ate much of it...but sniffing seemed to suffice..She is funny though with the little bits of it all over her....:)

1. That's why you need to get Smokie one of those "50-pound" catnip bags
Axl goes nuts with one of those bags when it arrives fresh from the pet store.

3. Max getting high with his catnip bag

That thing has been covered in his saliva so much I really need to get a new one. I can never get a good pic of him laying on his back rubbing the bag on his face with his paws.

6. I grow my own
Dry it, then run it through the food processor. The kitties seem to prefer it over anything bought from the store. In the summer they get to eat fresh catnip from the garden, which they think is the best thing in the world. It's very easy to grow.

9. I'll put a tiny pile of it on the ground. My Monster will eat it. I'll pretend to
want some myself and he'll cover the pile with his paws and his body as if to say "Mine - all mine". He's so cute!!!

10. go for the "El Gato Muy Loco" catnip cigars
they really live up to their name. Here's some photo evidence. Note, I tied a string to Tabby's because otherwise I would have lost two hands.

I have this in a signature at another forum

13. we have a patch of it growing during the summer
every few days, we trim it down, shred it up and give it to the cats.

the big boy - Gato, LOVES his catnip. he'll rub in it for a few minutes, then it's NOM NOM time.

21. Truly funny story...and I am a "dog" person, so count me educated...
I grew catnip UNKNOWINGLY in my front beds for a couple of years. Couldn't figure out why cats of every stripe congregated in my flower beds. My neighbor finally clued me in. She said, "basically, you are the neighborhood's feline drug supplier." Doh. (It was a pretty plant, though.)

I've since removed it, but the die-hards come back every year hoping for a regrowth. :-)

14. When I rented my first house....
my brother moved in with me and we had two cats.

One day, we bought a POUND bag of catnip, and
the bag tore when we opened it, so we put the
catnip into two smaller baggies.

My mother is one of the world's SNOOPIEST
creatures, and sure enough, a few days
later she "stopped by to look for her
missing tupperware". She pulled open the
drawer with the catnip in it and nearly
had a heart attack, but all she said, as
casually as she could was, and I am not
making this up...

"You kids sure keep a LOT OF GRASS around".

We like to *uck with her, so we didn't tell
her it was catnip.

18. Tip to keep catnip toys fresh -- and save $$$
I have a large jar with a latche lid. I keep a set of 50# catnip bags in it with lots of sprinkled catnip. Once a week or so, I say "fresh drugs!" and they come running. I give them the refreshed toys and put the stale ones in to incubate. It works -- they love it.
