The only thing I'm hoping for from this down economy
is the possibility that folks around me won't have the expendable resources to spend on 3 days worth of illegal friggin fireworks at New Years.

I'm sure that somehow makes me a bad person, but at least it will spare the Lounge my yearly New Year's Eve fireworks rant.

2. Very cool!
Okay, now I have *two* things I'm hoping result from the down economy, not that it's a fair trade for the overall hardship folks everywhere are feeling.

3. It doesn't make you a bad person
1) Fireworks are illegal.
2) Fucking dangerous, and most people try to set them off while drunk and therefore are likely to get someone hurt.
3) They stress your dogs out...There is nothing more upsetting to me than seeing my pets in distress and knowing there is nothing I can do about it.

11. They aren't illegal in most southern states.
If I so desired I could buy those HUGE mortar balls or just about any other noise making money wasting put your eye out type of pyrotechnic on the market. Of course I don't find that type of thing fun so I don't.

4. I'm so sorry you and your good babies have to deal with that.

I just read that they have the doggie version of Feliway out. I have no idea if it works but it might be worth a try, as I have heard people swear by the cat version:

5. Note to self: hide cache of fireworks when flv visits
Clarification: In this case "cache of fireworks" means about $10 worth of crappy leftover sparklers.

7. If my neighborhood is any indication, people are skipping car payments to buy fireworks
No appreciable decline this year.

I feel SO bad for the dogs. We try to keep them close and reassured but they still jump at the close ones.

8. The effect of high gas prices was fewer/no bud light cans on my road.
Yep, my road is the favorite place for an idiot to drive around and drink on. When the gas got near four bucks the cans stopped! Now they are everywhere again.

I'm glad I don't have any nearby neighbors (nearest one is a half mile away). I can imagine that your dogs don't enjoy the noise at ALL. I have six dogs & I know they would be terrified of that crap.

13. I'm glad that hasn't "caught on" here in Tennessee.
We had an incident where a guy was doing that in his backyard at a party, he was the owner of a popular Mexican grocery store that catered to the local Hispanic community. The cops showed up as he fired a round, the cops yelled for him to "drop it", the guy turned around without dropping it. You can imagine what happened next. He was buried back home in Mexico.

14. A young girl in Phoenix was killed in her backyard by a falling bullet
a few years ago. Since then the police have really cracked down here on gunfire at midnight.
My town of Glendale has sensors up to detect where gunfire comes from and the police react quickly to those reports.
Still, I'm nervous at midnight because some fool will always fire a gun somewhere and those bullets come down miles away and can be very deadly.

15. That is awful.
about my above post... the rolly eyes smiley was about the fact that they have to air the ads at all. I hate the guns.

16. I understand.

I haven't seen any ads here yet but the newscasts will usually talk about not firing guns at midnight. But what are the odds that the morans with the guns would bother watching the news?
