They didn't break the Top 40 until 1987's "The One I Love", which reached #9.

3. Beastie Boys
"Hold It Now, Hit It" was the first song to chart in the US in 1986 (#55 US R&B)

"Fight For Your Right" was the first song into the US Top 40 in 1987 (#7). This is also the ONLY BBoys song to ever break the US Top 10 singles. Not surprising, considering what passes as "popular music".

4. Jimi Hendrix
First hit single "Hey Joe" was released in December 1966.

Hendrix is my favorite artist and this is my least favorite Hendrix song.
