Another question: about Netflix. (And watching movies online)

It looks to me like one needs to buy special equipment to watch movies on my PC. Is that correct?

I have an Ethernet connection, and a wireless router if that helps. (For mom to have her own connection)

Also, is "W" available yet? I can't tell on either Netflix or Blockbuster.

1. You don't need special equipment ...
Edited on Sun Dec-28-08 02:11 AM by RoyGBiv
Just a Windows (now Mac also) based computer with an Internet connection. Leaves me out, but oh well. I have other ways ...

What makes you think you need special equipment?

OnEdit: I see what may have prompted that. They do offer a box that allows you to view things on your television rather than the computer. You don't have to have this unless you don't want to watch on your computer and don't know how or can't hook up your video out to your television or if you use Linux. (Which is really stupid 'cause the box they sell you runs Linux ... I dunno.)

Anyway ...

2. Thank you. I stand corrected. The special equipment does appear to be for TV.
So, I could sign up now, and watch a movie right away?

3. I think so ...

I don't use it, so I don't know what the sign-up process is like. But most stuff like that works pretty much immediately.

My ladyfriend does and has for some time. She swears by it. There were some problems with Vista when it first came out, but I think they got those worked out.

4. newer tv's have an input you can connect your computer to
i just use the cord that connects my computer to the screen and can watch stuff on the tv.

i plan to try this with Netflix. all i'm doing is displaying the laptop on the tv.

6. But only intel-based Macs, G4s, G5s need not apply.
