I write stories about my adventures as a trucker. I post them here in the lounge and I'm sure that a lot of you are familiar with them. I celebrated Christmas with my dad's side of the family a few days back. They are all conservatives except for one female cousin who also happens to be the only college educated one of the bunch, and my dad, who is a union man. But my family members who are conservatives are up on current events, I'll give them that. I've found that for them, conservatism means personal liberty. They are not religious people so religion does not motivate them. They do vote for Republicans, but the events of the last several months have led them to believe that the Republicans do not have their best interests at heart. And, of course, they don't believe the Democrats do, either. That's a little about my folks.
I'm sure some conservative lurkers have read my stories here, but this is the first time I'll be getting feedback on my stories from conservative minded people. I do have a couple of blatantly liberal stories, but I did not send them to them. I picked stories that are representative of my work as a whole. The theme running through them all, with maybe a couple of exceptions, is honoring and having compassion for "ordinary" people, and seeing that we are all unique and fascinating. In short, I'm hoping that my stories will resonate with conservatives as they have with my liberal friends here. We'll see.
