3. Yep.
I'm also annoyed that the Google picture of my house was taken when my front lawn was all torn up in preparation for some landscaping, and it looks like crap.

4. yeah but there's a limit to how close you can get
teh government can see what you are wearing if they want to. Thermal imaging see where you are in your house, all way beyond the tech that they let google use. But its still amazing.

20. dunno, but they could be if they wanted to
a lot of resources would have to be devoted to your yoga pants and Dolphins jersey ensemble today, someone might think it was worth looking at :P

but probably not unless you are a person of interest or an enemy of the state or something like that :shrug:

:hi:

11. Only if they know the address.
And if they knew the address, they could also drive to your house.

I don't get why some are so creeped out by this. It's not real-time.

7. You talkin' satellite or street view?
Cuz street view is CRAZY, it's not real time, but to think that someone drove up and down streets to take pictures every few feet in 360 degrees is stunning!

Your street might or might not be on it, you should try!

Here's one of the places I lived at 227 Sullivan St.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=227+sullivan+st,+new+york,+ny&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=37.819897,79.101563&ie=UTF8&ll=40.729665,-73.999679&spn=0.008846,0.019312&z=16&g=227+sullivan+st,+new+york,+ny&iwloc=addr

You gotta hit Street View.

15. It's crazy! Works on the iPhone now, too.
Only with the phone you can spin around the 360 more easily, and you can pan up and down and see the sky!

I love the little gizmo, now with GPS I can figure out where the fuck I am in an unfamiliar city, within a few feet.

8. It's worse than that
If you google your address, you can see a street-level view of it--several vantage points, even. Every road on the map outlined in blue has apparently been photographed in depth. . . I guess the big thing to remember is to never wander in front of an open window when you're nekkid or picking your nose or something, because you could be immortalized.

OT (kinda): I just received a heads-up from my freecycle admin, warning us that Yahoo now has "beacons" that follow us not only on their sites, but everywhere we go. You have to navigate their crappy support pages to opt out of this "targeted marketing" crap. It's not enough to opt out once on your account--you have to opt out on every computer you access Yahoo from. WTF?

Has the Bush era completely robbed us of our privacy forevermore?

16. They "street viewed" my neighborhood on trash day
Edited on Sun Jan-04-09 05:25 PM by swishyfeet
I've got the trash, recycling, the big yard debris container, AND that stupid Food Day out front.

OTOH, it's a beautiful summer day and my lawn looks great.

The creepiest is www.Zillow.com. Everyone now knows how much your home is worth - and how much value you lost this year!

22. I Zillowed the White House:
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC
Public Facts:

* 16 beds
* 35.0 bath
* 55,000 sqft
* Lot 784,080 sqft
* Built in 1792

Worth about 309 million.
You can get a loan, the mortgage would be 1.46 million.
