I went to a new gym to sign up for a membership today and was seized upon by an employee who started out our interaction with, "Oh my God! Your hair is so pretty!"
That would have just been a nice ego boost, but she subsequently followed it up with: "Your skin is so nice!" and "La-ra...La-ra...what a PRETTY name!" and "You have three kids? You'd never guess!" "You're 31? You'd never guess!" and "you look so tall!" :wtf:

It may be a well-advised tactic to throw a nice word or two another person's way, but by the fourth or fifth compliment you just sound like a disingenuous ass-kisser, and it's really effing annoying. I couldn't even fake a polite smile by the time she really got going, yet she didn't stop.

Gah.
